Steph,
There is no reason to put up with bad work and patronising shops.
You really must find a shop you can trust. Ask for recommendations on the forum or through the Triumph clubs. Try them out with small jobs first to see how they perform. In the meantime, practise some DIY with smaller tasks. A good shop manual, some basic tools and common sense and you will do just fine. There really are simple little cars.

Cheers,
Rich

Underdog thanks for the support.I did not know about the Triumph guy until after I had used the other garage. The first place was reccomended to me as they are a electrical specialist and I was suffering from a few probs.I did post here about my saga so don't want to repeat myself to much but he had the car 4 weeks and told me he had rebuilt the healights,re wired the dash and other stuff. However he had not got the fuel gauge working that was asked for and he put on the bill 'gauge working needs filling up with fuel' My dad put in a new sender and we were away but they should have done it.I found this triumph guy nr me and he took my car for a mot test and the healights wont pop, also numourous elec faults so I am having to pay agaim for work done only a month ago.I know I should give in and do things myself but with a husband and kids and work I dont get the time. The TR is my lost lost youth fun and I am not gonna let the garages spoil it!! I should take them to court but......Besides the suns out my car is ready!!!!!!![:D]

Hi Steph?,

First, enjoy your rekindled youth in the TR. Just soak it up.

I have a comment on your solution to this errant mechanic.

I found that mechanics really change their tune once a guy confronts them.

My ex wife used to get real upset that the mechanics suddenly became nice and super polite after I had visited them about the problem. (Why did they not take her seriously she asked)

Workshops often treat women differently, sad but true. Send in your husband or another male friend.

Yes, I know this probably makes you feel bad but........ It might be qicker than the other processes. Also, decide upon what your bottom dollar would be, the minimum refund you will accept to get it over with and move on. Give your man this information and see what happens.

Finally, do something rather than nothing! You see, in this situation the mechanic has all the power and has left you powerless. I was taught as a young insurance agent to take the power back when someone abuses you (sometimes happened when cold calling on the telephone). Walking away leaves an emotional chip off you.

What was the innsurance training? This:

In my training I was told to call the guy back and tell him and say "thanks for what you said, it really helped me.....surprised silence from the abuser.... you see our research says that only 1 guy in 100 is a(&$&()*%$# like you so the next 99 people will be normal" then hang up on him before he can reply. This really takes the power back and feels great!!!! No residue unhappiness.

Use what ever means you have to take the power back. I do however recomend that you send end in a guy first for a guy to guy talk.

regards,

Jolyon

The next time your life partner's team loses say "told you not to support them." [:D]

I was being chased by the cops last night. When I pulled over they asked me why I wouldn't stop.I said "My husband ran off with a police woman....I thought you were bringing him back".[:D]

I have been to the citizens advice about this dodgy repair and they said don't bother confronting him in his shop again.Take my evidence to trading standards and see what happens.I have a good case for some refund[:D]
