Carb mounts

Had a productive day in the garage tinkering, coolant flush, fitted some new number plate lights, and cleaned up some earthing points and connectors.

I also changed the carb mounts, simple job but with big hands it's a bit fiddly. I know the quality of the replacement ones aren't that good, but I was surprised how ropey they were, even had to open up the holes to get them to fit.

I heard that you can get solid ones from the dolly owners club, has anybody fitted these?

Also my cheap Draper spanners didn't help either, they're quite crudely cast. Next on the list some decent spanners.

The aftermarket carb mounts will be ok for a few months.

[Workshop Help]

A gracious good day to you, Mr Spike.

I now politely beseech you to stop everything you are doing and hustle down to your nearest hardware store to purchase two, 3" diameter hose clamps.

Next, peruse my article in The Workshop Manual entitled, 'Z-S Carburetor Mixture Screw O-Ring'. Observe in the top three photos how the hose clamps secure the carburetor cross plate to the intake manifold.

Your installing the clamps will prevent the new and cheesy rubber mounts from falling apart, which will be MORE than a little irritating.

I have just bought some solid carb mounts from the guy in the USA that makes them, I can post the details if you are interested but they cost me $155 including shipping.

They are very well made and are in my opinion a better option than the poor replicas currently available from suppliers, which aren't servicable parts.

I've had the aluminum mounts on my Spider for over a year now and not had any problems with them. A great upgrade in my opinion!

I have the same aluminum mounts that rgsSpider has on his car that I bought from Anthony Rhodes at spamiam@comcast.net. Mine are holding up a set of Weber Carbs that are much heaver than the stock carbs.

I discussed the US made mounts with Dave Rose at the NEC, he says they are very well made, I will be ordering a pair shortly.

Something else to add to the list, they do look good though.

Need to fit the disk and calipers from Russ, refurbish the suspension and sort out the wipers first.

[Workshop Help]

We're confused. Are you adding the carb mounts or the two hose clamps to the list? The hose clamps are a LOT cheaper and far EASIER to install while accomplishing the same result.

Yah, but they don't look as good. A good temp solution until something better comes along. I'm keeping a eye out for something cheap and eye appealing the is repurposed for Yellow TCT. Something in the way of a turnbuckle or solid clamp.
