Flashing headlights,

Hello all,
picked the tr up a week ago and after having it in the garage for a week with a couple of days off coming up it gives me time to sort a couple of small jobs, first one being is the headlights pop up and work fine with the switch on the dash but not with the indicator arm , so guessing it needs a new arm or is there a separate fuse to check first? Also the car is a 1980 so would any tr7 indicator arm fit?

Tone- Don't go jumping to conclusions that the stalk is broken.
Most probably a connection .
The fuses are in the cubby

Could be the Pektron unit which operates the flash. TBH the flash is pretty useless as by the time the lights have raised whatever you were flashing has gone.
For the indicator arm you need to check whether yours is on the right or left of the column. Early ones were on the right, later ones n the left. I think they changed around '79 but many cars were registered late.

thanks for the replies, if a fuse had blown, wouldn't that stop the lights from raising when I flick the dashboard switch? the indicator arm is on the left, so if I ebay an arm after checking earths,fuses then I have to ask if its a left sided arm.

Ive current through the dashboard switch as the lights when I use the switch work fine, they just don't work when I use the arm.

There is current from both directions on the arm.
Do you have both?

You have a blue wire to the stalk that carries the current when the light are on there is also a Purple one that carries current to flash them
Is the purple hot
I take it the dip switch is working as therefore the blue has current

According to the wiring chart, the purple wire take current to the switch and then thru the blue/white wire to operate the motors.

Beware, purple wires on a TR7 are always hot. Door lights, trunk lid light, cigarette lighter, etc.

Check the Pektron unit, this little black box acts as a delay to allow the lights to go through the cycle of popping up and flashing without having to hold the dip switch, instead you just need to give it a flick.
For unknown reasons US spec cars don't have this feature.

You'll need to get hold of a non US spec wiring diagram.

Another, quite easy solution is fit some driving lights and flash through them. At least you'll be able to flash your lights in a timely mannor.

I went to the trouble of rebuilding my Pektron unit, there's not much to it.
But found that, as has been mentioned previously in this thread by Saabfast that by the time the damned lights have gotten around to popping up whomever you were attempting to flash is long gone!
So wired up the driving lights to do the flashing.
Here's a pic of my car showing both the driving and fog lights fitted, unobtrusively under the bumper.

Clay- I took it as the B supplied the power to the stalk AFTER the switch on the dash was flipped.
The P is only for the F to P on the stalks the lights don't need to be on
