& they got me yesterday. For years the bl@@dy greenies bitched &
moaned, every time our council cleared the rubbish that encroaches
onto the road verges. Well the council found ihis a good excuse to
save money, by taking the clearing gangs off the job. I think they
said it was "cost effective", but for whom.
Its a perfect place for the Kangaroos to hide, closer to the road,
before they jump out infront of you. The body shops love them.
Over the years some of the scrub turned into saplings, then trees, &
finally BIG trees. As with most things, the rubbish grows quickest,
so now we have 50Ft high 2.5 to 3 Ft diameter trees, just a foot or
two off, even our main roads. In some places they meet overhead.
Not a week goes by without someone running off the road, getting
seriously injured by running into one, & at least monthly some one
now gets killed. The last one was a night duty nurse, who went to
sleep, on her way home, who's passanger was killed. NICE.
Well, yesterday I was driving home from town, passing under some of
these overhanging, 50Ft rubbish, when there was a very loud crashing
noise, & I caught just a flash of movement at the passenger side
front of the car. When I stopped I found a a moderate dent, with
a 2" by 1" patch of paint off the top of the fender/mudguard, above
the fromt wheel. You know, that narrow bit of flat fender beside the
bonnet/hood.
I guess I was lucky it didn't get the bonnet, & the windscreen as
well. In fact it hasn't even got the sharp edge, at the side/top of
the fender which will make it easier to fix. When I went back, I
found the bit of dead branch, about 2" diameter, & 3Ft long, with
paint on the thick end.
I guess I'm also lucky that there were no greenies around, as they
would now, be on their way to America, to find a surgeon capable of
getting the stick out of their back passage, where I would have
jammed it, & I would be in jail.
My painter bloke starts a repaint of the 8 tomorrow, so I guess it
will be a couple of months before this gets fixed. Meanwhile, I've
brushed a bit of paint over the damage. It looks worse painted, than
it did, with the undercoat showing, but it will keep any moisture
out.
