I hate the b******s,

& they got me yesterday. For years the bl@@dy greenies bitched &
moaned, every time our council cleared the rubbish that encroaches
onto the road verges. Well the council found ihis a good excuse to
save money, by taking the clearing gangs off the job. I think they
said it was "cost effective", but for whom.

Its a perfect place for the Kangaroos to hide, closer to the road,
before they jump out infront of you. The body shops love them.

Over the years some of the scrub turned into saplings, then trees, &
finally BIG trees. As with most things, the rubbish grows quickest,
so now we have 50Ft high 2.5 to 3 Ft diameter trees, just a foot or
two off, even our main roads. In some places they meet overhead.

Not a week goes by without someone running off the road, getting
seriously injured by running into one, & at least monthly some one
now gets killed. The last one was a night duty nurse, who went to
sleep, on her way home, who's passanger was killed. NICE.

Well, yesterday I was driving home from town, passing under some of
these overhanging, 50Ft rubbish, when there was a very loud crashing
noise, & I caught just a flash of movement at the passenger side
front of the car. When I stopped I found a a moderate dent, with
a 2" by 1" patch of paint off the top of the fender/mudguard, above
the fromt wheel. You know, that narrow bit of flat fender beside the
bonnet/hood.

I guess I was lucky it didn't get the bonnet, & the windscreen as
well. In fact it hasn't even got the sharp edge, at the side/top of
the fender which will make it easier to fix. When I went back, I
found the bit of dead branch, about 2" diameter, & 3Ft long, with
paint on the thick end.

I guess I'm also lucky that there were no greenies around, as they
would now, be on their way to America, to find a surgeon capable of
getting the stick out of their back passage, where I would have
jammed it, & I would be in jail.

My painter bloke starts a repaint of the 8 tomorrow, so I guess it
will be a couple of months before this gets fixed. Meanwhile, I've
brushed a bit of paint over the damage. It looks worse painted, than
it did, with the undercoat showing, but it will keep any moisture
out.

S**t happens. Luckily no harm to you and by the looks of it only slight damage to the car. But at least the greenies still let you drive.

Over here a lot of very nice country lanes have been closed for traffic for just that reason, protect the flora and fauna [B)]

Hey Hasbeen, why not set the TR up as a chariot of old. Fix some rather nice chain saws to either side by the back wheels, sticking out far enough to cut the *******s down, then just go roaring through the roads leaving an interesting wake behind you. Should be able to go fast enough to avoid being caught by the greenies!!

Important thing is, you're ok, the car only suffered minor damage and can be fixed, however bloody annoying it is.

Glad you were not hurt Hasbeen. We need your wit and wisdom.

It could be worse, but maybe this is time to start petitioning about the trimming and get your neighbors and friends aboard to "cut back" on the greenies desires and make the roads safer. You have lots of data and now personal, physical proof of the dangers.

Here in Maine (USA) the power companies keep the trees trimmed back as much as they can to keep things like this from happening. Nice to know my $$$$ goes for something constructive.

Take care,

Peri

Thanks for the kind words floks. Sorry about the rant, but we are
having to fight for our lives here, so it gets personal.

I have a river front farm. I paid a lot more for river front, so I
could irrigate crops, on the rich river flats. I have a licence to
irrigate 18 acres. The rest of the farm is light sandy soil, good
only for grazing a few stock, & building houses, sheds etc.

The greenies are trying to get our irrigation rights cancelled. It
seems that the invertebrates in the river sand need the water more
than we do.

Then they want 250 meters of river front, on both sides of the river
declared a wild life corridor. Where they have achieved this, the
owners must fence the area off from their farm, at their expence, &
not even walk on it.

As my river flats are only 300 meters wide, this would take 70% of
my productive land, & I could not get to my pump, on the river. It
is totally ludicrous, but it is happening in some areas. Thank god I
don't still have to earn my living from the farm.

We won the power debate by default. We were loosing power 2 or 3
times a week, in the spring storm season, for up to 8 hours at a
time, due to restricted clearing of power lines. Then a big storm
put the power off to 250,000 people in the city, for up to 3 days.
New line clearing laws were passed in days, & our power is now, much
more reliable.

May be I'm paranoid about all this, but as I said at the start, I
hate the B*****ds.
