My introduction

Postby McLarenf1l » 30 Apr 2010 09:14

Hello all. My name is Schuyler. Some basic info about me: I'm 22, Pre Med student, work at a hospital (more often then not), I have an obsessions with cars (it's serious, believe me), and I have just purchased a 1980 TR7. For the longest time, I've really had an interest in smaller European cars (hence the TR7) and I've finally bought one! It's going to need a little work but what car of this age doesn't? Something I have learned thus far in life: research is everything. Forums are a great places for research and initial thought processes to be worked on. I look forward to talking with all of you and sharing the experience with everyone. Thanks for having me and cheers.

Welcome to you, Schuyler. This is a great place; I've received much more than I've given. (Must get busy and reciprocate!)

Pictures?

Cheers back at ya,
Mickey

Welcome to the forum. Fun cars to drive, gets lots of looks as you don't see one every day. If you got a relatively rust free car you've got a good start. Corroded electrical connections give most problems so systematically taking them apart and cleaning them is a good preemptive strike. Engineering is a little different in a few areas so grab a OEM manual off Amazon (up to '81)or for free go to jclay's website and grab it in pdf format (up to 79). Look forward to your pictures and posts.

I will have photos soon! It's currently grey in color and will be needing a new top and suspension work but it's a pretty solid find. No rust, carbs will be in order and I will be working on removing a few things here and there. I like the concept of replacing the fan unit with a "slim" version, running off an electric motor. Also, the AC will be coming off and I've heard removing the "smog" pump[?] is something to look at? Honestly, I'm not looking to modify it whatsoever. My goal is to have a solid, reliable car that I can start up every time. Thanks for the tips on the manual but where exactly do I find this? A quick Google search didn't get me anywhere.

Thanks all for having me, I look forward to sharing info and stories and such.

Don't bother with Haynes manual, not near as good. You can remove air pump if you don't need to meet emissions in your area or meet originality requirements for collector plates/insurance. You can search this site for all this, if it times out hit refresh button on your browser and then hit retry button and esults will come up.
