What petrol ?

Just out of interest , what petrol does everyone run thier cars on ? ive always put Super unleaded in mine . Thanks Zoe

I only put super in cause my steve tells me to !! she seems to run well on it so i dont change , Stevie what do u get to the gallon? mpg, i mean?

Unleaded, everything between RON 95 and RON 100
Preferably RON 98 or higher
Runs best on RON 100, available just across the border in Germany [:)]

allways ran the recommended regular unleaded in mine

over here it's 87 octane rating, never had any trouble.

US 8 to 1 engines run fine on standard 87 (US Octane rating). UK 9.25 to 1 engines should have 91 (US) or 95 (UK). That being said I run my 9 to 1 Toyota (carb) on 87 (US) just fine at sea level and my Integra 9 to 1 on 89 (US). If operating at higher elevations, higher compression ratios, advanced timing, a higher octane will help. Using a higher octane rating than recomended will do nothing but make your wallet a little lighter. A friend runs his 9 to 1 UK engined Spitfire just fine with midgrade 89 (US) again at sea level.

For those you are not aware N/A and Europe calculate octane in different ways. Europe uses the straight RON method where as N/A calculates using a more realistic over wide operating conditions (so they say) using the RON and MON combination Octane = (R+M)/2 which you will see on the gas pumps.

For equivalency add 4 to 4.5 to US Octane to get same Octane number found in Europe.

You have bigger gallons than we do, don't you? I use 87, but I don't get all that good of gas mileage, probably about 17 to 24, depending on distances, etc.

i thrash mine every where lol , always seem to get 29 mpg !! so about the same i guess !!

I've gotten 40 mpg (just a tad cover) at maximum milage run. (10 hour drive at 50 mph, tires pumped up to 36 psi, roads were 1/2 mountain, half level). At speed 55mph to 60 mph (the speed limits on Trans Canada Highway on the Island) it's closer to 36 probably, haven't actualy done a test run but similar to my Integra (1800cc) and more than the Toyota (1500cc). Interestingly thae faster the TR7 goes the worse the gas milage whereas the faster the Integra goes the better the gas milage (at least up to 110 kph. the speed limit of the fastest part of Trans Canada Highway on mainland.)

My UK spec 7, with good breathing added is quite happy running on
our 93. I have used 95, & 97 from time to time, but can not detect
any difference in engine performance with the chamge.

The thing has been giving less good economy over the last couple of
years. It is down from about 36 MPG to 29 MPG in normal daily
running.

I am absolutely sure, well positive, or pretty well certain, OK,
reasonably convinced, OK OK OK, I like to think that my loss of
economy has nothing to do with the fact that our local back roads
have become infected with silly YOUNG buggers, driving around
in convoys of 3 or 4 vehicles, at 85 to 90Km/H, in 100Km/H zones.

The length of these convoys has increased with the increase in
drivers who only ever overtake when given an extra lane in which to
do so.

I am further convinced that the fact that I now blast past these
convoys in 3Rd, or 4th gear, rather than cruise past in top has
nothing to do with fuel consumption.

What's more, I AM NOT A CRANKY OLD BUGGER.

I do think it may be time for me to move a couple of hundred Kms
further away from the city.

Spyder , how could u possibly drive 10 hours at 50mph? !!! i dont like diving 10 miles at 50mph , least i know why i only get 29mpg now , thanks for all your answers ,Zoe
