Keep the air pump (little drag) system and cats for a while until the 4 bbl carb works well.

Sounds reasonable. You'll have trouble enough getting a 'murrican carb to work flawlessly as it is...

quote:
Then remove the air pump system and replace it with new cats, exhaust maybe, headers maybe, and see if I will be happy with that.

If you stay with carbs - don't bother with changing out the catcons.
They will be burned out with time anyway...

If you decide to go the headers route:
- I'd be interested to take on your cast iron manifolds and the entire air pump system (for dad's TR7V8)...

quote:
Since it is in cast iron, should I stay with steel, or go with S/S or brass?

I think most have used ordinary grub screws - but then they'll be a pita if you want to remove them later...
I'd use stainless with aluminium paste as lubricant.

Thanks, Odd. Over on this side, I/we have very little experience and parts resources for the Stromberg carb. Mine I am sure are completely dried up. Is there a quick test of serviceability? If I have to go thru a rebuild, I would rather swap in an Edelbrock 4 bbl. I have 8 years of experience with a Carter AVS (=Edelbrock Thunder) 4 bbl, which I rebuilt and tweaked. Had no problems once tweaked, which was rather easy.

I gotcha on the parts if and when I later go to headers. I will keep the cast iron all the while I work on the TR8 to get it running. I will not spend big until I know the car is good to go, as we say in 'murrica (better as 'Merica). [^]

How much does the second wedge (the trailer) weigh? What is it equipped with? Cooking, refrigeration, toilet, shower?

but I guess actual weight when fully equiped for a weekend (or a week) will be more... [}:)]

It will be equipped with a semi-stow-away double bed, a running water sink, a 3-place propane stove,
a propane/12VDC/240VAC fridge, a propane-to-air heater system and maybe a Porta-Potti (emergency)
toilet. I'm still building (slowly!) the interior and haven't finally decided on some of my wilder ideas...

When I bought it they had gutted the entire inside, nothing was left in it - but I saw its potential... And:
It was the correct year model to make it the ultimate time-correct accessory to my '8. [:D]

Interesting, Odd. [:)] In the future I need to decide what type of RV, trailer, or nothing at all (=hotels) to move around with.

I located 1/4 inch s/s bolts, and larger. I don't know what size the air tubing connectors are. Not starting right away, tho. I want to plan a good Positive Crankcase Ventilation system, if the present system needs improvement. Do present owners find a need to improve that?
