Birthday Treat

Postby Urchin » 20 Oct 2009 17:21

I received a surprise birthday treat on Monday.

I had to move two cars from the ferry parking lot with only one driver, me. So I enlisted the aid of a friend to drive one car to my house, and then I'd give him a ride home.

The choice of cars was either my 1966 Corvair Coupe, a 4-speed, or my '80 Spider. Driving the Corvair is an acquired art so I reluctantly gave him the Spider and started off.

I found, however, that I had a delight in store as I looked up at the rear view mirror. There I could view my TR-7 from its best angle, the front, as it wound down the twisty road. I live in a place where I never see another TR-7; indeed, I live in a state where it's unusual to see a TR-7 at all, from any angle. I could not have been happier to have been in another car just to watch the beauty of a wedge under way.

As a forum member noted in an earlier post, our TR-7's are stunning cars. Mine gave me quite a birthday treat.

"I live in a state where it's unusual to see a TR-7 at all"

Is there a place anywhere where it is not unusual to see a wedge?

I have never seen one in Arizona except at a triumph club meeting.

I did have a friend call me on his cell phone once when he saw one on the road.

Happy Birthday!

Did your mate like the ride?

He's a die-hard Mustang guy, so the size and spirit of the TR-7 elude him.

What's the aquired art of driving a Corvair?

I get the same feeling every time I look at my 7. I've only ever seen one other 7 on the road, (2007) other than club functions and car shows.

True car guys. The same thing happened to me. My choice was to give my friend the keys to my 64 SS Chevelle and follow in my 7 since I knew I would loose him in the mountains if I led. The old SS looked great rounding the mountains I live in. No wonder I get so many thumbs up when I drive the old girl! [:)]
