More TR7's Scrapped!!

Postby Dave Dyer » 15 Oct 2009 08:17

Hi all,

As many enthusiasts are getting TR7s back on the road, sadly at the other end of the scale the scrappage scheme is removing them!!!!

Two more fine examples are being scrapped:

Look on Ebay 220493891343 A really good example of an early FHC.

And 220495036338 a 1982 DHC.

They are offering 'one day' to strip the car! Not take the whole thing away (and have a chance of saving it [;)])

I really hope they have no takers.

Dave

Such a huge shame. It does not look too bad at all and if it was running and mot`d (which I assume it was as it needs to be to take part in the scrappage scheme)then it is certainly restorable.

The scrappage scheme is a lie imo. The government go on about taking polluting cars off of the road in exchange for nice new clean ones, conveniently forgetting about the greenhouse gasses produced by new car manufacture and in dismantling and scrapping the old car. We have had recycling drummed into us for years, then get a policy introduced that flies in the face of everything we have been told.

If they were honest and said it was solely to subsidise new car manufacturers.... oh hang on, that would be politically incorrect wouldn`t it.

I don`t get worked up about many things, but this....

Have a look at the other cars being scrapped by the same company: Porsche 924, Golf Convertible and a Land Rover!

Such a shame it really is, while im all for saving the planet etc, but if they think by soley taking older cars off the road is the answer to all there prayers then they should think again, on many occasions im stuck behing smokey old diesel buses, but thats ok i quess as people on there are paying for that privilege, Bout time someone in power gets a grip!

I have to agree with Zoe on this one ....why would you hope there are no takers Dave, then wouldn't all the good bits go to waste?????

Yes it's a shame and sad that a good car like this ends up scrapped, but like was said above, at least this guy is doing us a deed and letting real car enthusiasts grab what's good before he has to squash it!!!
Honestly if this was happening in my neighbourhood, I 'D jump on the chance to pay 295$ and snatch the roof, interior, wheels and what ever else was good and easy to remove!!!

I am just as sad as anyone to see two seemingly roadworthy cars go to the crusher.

On a practical note, if anyone does bid on these cars for the parts, then I might be able to lend a hand with dismantling at a weekend as the yard is only about 25 miles from me. In fact if I had any storage space I would be very tempted myself!

I think part of me thinks if there are no takers then the cars will remain whole, plus he won't scrap them as they are, because at the end of the day they are still worth something. But the main reason I think is because it saddens me to think of 2 perfectly good TR7 being destroyed for parts. If it was sitting in a field totally rotten, then fair enough. I suppose I'm thinking with my heart!!!???

Lots of us out there have spent many hours working hard to put a TR7 back on the road and this scheme is destroying good examples that will still have MOT and up to this date were being driven. There have been posts recently about the number of TR7 left in the UK getting less and this scheme is going to make that worse.

Common sense should kick in, look at the cars been taken in the scrappage scheme, yes scrap the rubbish, but sell on the good stuff, as Andy said the government push recycling!!

For me its the principle, it saddens me and angers me. I couldn't bring myself to help destroy a good usable TR7.

If they have any sense they'll just store the car for a while until this rotten, stinking, corrupt government have been removed. I know that's not really good enough, they deserve far worse punishment than just losing an election, but at least if these cars can be hidden from them for a while surely some common sense in the future will see them back on the road.

I have kept the chassis plate from a TR7 I had in 1986; I wonder if that could be reconstructed on a new shell and legally put back on the road. Maybe the shell from one of these cars about to be crushed could be used.

Very, very angry about this so sorry for the rant.

John couldnt agree more, i think youve sumped it up in youre comments, this government dont really give a toss about the older cars on the road they just want you to buy more new cars so people can line theire pockets with the profits made, then next breath they say there is too many cars on the road, and want you to use public transport, or car share while they drive around in big Jags etc , the whole thing is a joke!

Yes John I agree, common sense to me and you would say use the shell, even with a different ID. If you've scrapped a TR7 in the past, so are replacing like for like then this makes sense.

If this bloke sold the TR's complete to take away, then instead of someone working on a basket case, they could transfer everything over to the good shell and get the car back on the road. Or even just scrap everything they have and use the car as it is, with the already owned ID.
