Front Spoiler Damage, replacement??

I remove the original metal spoliter from my 7 since it was damage beyong repair?

What should I put instead?

I believe the car is overheating because it is missing

Rimmer has several made of fiberglass, but not sure if they will do the trick or the fact that I am missing the metal one will not allow to install it.

Any advise will be very much welcome.

By metal one I assume you are talking about the lower valance that is welded on? If so, the reproduction spoilers attach to it so yes, you would need it replaced first.

I run my V8 without the plastic spoiler and have no heating issues. I suspect you may have other problems.

Agree with Underdog.
From own experience I know that a good spoiler will aid a little with cooling but the engine shoudn't overheat without one.

Hi nguada, I have a spoiler on the 4.6L 8, but none on the 7. I do
however have the valance, & believe it's essential for cooling. The
spoiler has helped with the 8s cooling, but is not needed on a 7.

Mine was also too far gone for repair, so I cut the one off my
spares car, cut the old one off the good car, painted the
replacement, & riveted it on, rather than burn the paint with
welding.

I did it this way, as the painter had assumed I would fit a new
spoiler, & had painted the mangled valance, without repair. This was
7 years ago, & the replacement is still there. still there.

I'd find one somewhere, fit it, then look to see if the car still
got hot.

I will rivet on the new metal front balance and try to find other reasons for the overheating.

I live in South Florida, that can not help.

How about an electric fan, is it a good improvement?

Nothing wrong with fitting an electric thermo fan, but not as a way
to overcome overheating.

South Florida is no hotter than my area, & the stock viscous coupled
fan does the job here, no trouble, & should work well, anywhere.

If the car is overheating, there is a problem, & it is best to find,
rather than disguise, the base problem.

Cooling systems, & radiators, partially clogged with muck is often a
problem with cars this old, but so is poor tuning. Check the
radiator for cool areas, when the car is hot, any cool areas are not
working.

The electrice fan releases the energy used to spin the mechanical fan for more important things such as going forward faster. It also allows the engine to come up to normal temp faster because it will have a thermostatic switch which should be set so the fan doesn't kick in till the engine is warm.

Before I had my radiator re-cored it would work fine on the motorway but was verey sensitive to loss of airflow & get quite hot in slow traffic or when thrashed. Since the re-core it refuses to get past 55% on the gauge. The other advantage is that they will give the radiator a fresh coat of paint so it will look nice. [:)]

Did you damaged spoiler/valance look anything like this!

I have removed mine, it was ugly, and it made no difference.

Mine is badly damaged too so I have removed it while I consider options. Doesnt seem to affect cooling though. Replacement OE GRP ones are easy to come by (in the UK at least) going for from UKP 50 to 90. It's the shipping thats the killer ! Rimmers have a good selection of Mk1, MK2, Rally etc ones, but S&S are the best deal next to Robsport. Sometimes I wish I lived in the UK, but then I go outside and stand in the sun . . . . . .
