Front grill

Postby alanjarvis » 23 Aug 2009 15:42

there are some nasty rust bubbles appearing above the thin black plastic grill above the front bumper (under the head lights) on my TR7. How do you remove the grill? It appears the be held in place by plastic rivits. Dod I drill these out?

Alan there should be a small pin, in the crntre of those plastic
bits.

When installing them you knock the pin in, to spread the back of
the "rivit". To remove, knock the pin right through, with a thin pin
punch, & they will close enough to pull out. [Or will break, because
they are old & brittle, like me]

If you can catch the pins, as you nock them out, you can reuse
the "rivits".

As Hasbeen said, you just need to keep the original pins. You will find them on the ground after you push them out. Then will you reinstall the grills, the sleeve will go back inside the hole in the car and the plastic pin will go back inside the sleeve, expanding the back of the sleeve and holding the grill in place.

My grills are held in by plastic finned push pins, not the type with centre pins like what hold the thresold panels. They just pull out and can be reused.

The ones with the pin in the centre are after market items, the originals are the mushroom type like yours.
