How long should the dipstick tube be?

Postby MrT » 15 Aug 2009 19:00

Just wondering, 'coz I don't think mine's long enough, as there's definitely not too much oil in it , but it's waaaay over the maximum mark. Surely there must be a better solution than a stupid rubber hose..?

Hi MrT,

The best way to sort this is to install a new rubber pipe that is too long, drain the oil and refill with the exact amount as per the manual. Next you just trim down the new rubber pipe until you get an exact Full reading on your dip stick.

My ROM says that the engine sump and filter capacity is 4.5 litres and the sump only is 4.0 Litres. I am told that you should replace the filter when doing this, run the engine to fill the filter and then do your measurements from there.

regards,

Jolyon

Sorry, Sunday morning & feeling a bit silly. Title of the post brought the comercial to mind. Hard to imagine if you haven't seen it.

As Red Green, er, Underdog said, it is a stupid little commercial for Castrol's new synthetic, and now you've stuck it in my head and it won't go away.[:D]
