Do you want to sell the stand that you have your car on when you have finished with it?

Sorry Phil, stand has a q' of people waiting for it, they are very easy to make, should cost no more than about £50 for materials if static, a bit more if on castors because good ones are expensive.

Paul,

For an early TR7 it looks pretty solid, but make sure you treat all suspect areas properly, especially the rear of the floor section, rear axle pick up points, boot floor/spare wheel well and the rear chassis legs.
Just found a few (very tiny) rust holes on my DHC in these areas, which looked much more solid than yours before shot blasting.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

Cheers Beans, think rust always looks worse on a picture, majority is very slight surface rust and a bit of pitting, rest assured that the media blasting will find the weak points and these will be repaired correctly. Got to slow down a wee bit on this car, I retired from work on ill health 2 years ago, been ok up to now, a few weeks steady work on the TR has taken its toll so I am stepping back for a while and having a few weeks away from it to recharge my batteries.

cheers, Paul

That looks just like the bottom of my car at the moment! Well, except with more green and less rust... [;)]

Looks pretty solid though - goes to show that even our old Speke cars can survive the years if they're looked after properly!

What are you painting the underside with - is it getting a respray in body colour?

Hope you feel better enough to get back on to it soon.

Garry

That is going to be a great car. You are starting in the right place, the body.

I found rust underneath in an out of sight place, out of sight even in your photo's.

Check the top of the rear chassis rails in the fuel tank enclosure. Stuff sits up there and eats down into the rails.

regards

Not a lot to report, now got car into unit where I can get started, ordered a few panels from S&S so hopefully they will arrive in next couple of days. Just trial fitting new door to get gaps even before I replace sill, car is supported on stands on chassis as well as turnover frame.

cheers, Paul

Hope I don't get parts mixed up jumping from one project to another, not to mention 2 other Escorts that are ongoing as well [:0]

Look away now if you are squeemish [:)] , had a couple of hours today on the shell, decided it was time to remove some panels, firstly an exploratory cut in the front wing to see how bad it is and what runs where, knew there was a loom in there somewhere, was quite pleased with the panel behind, again the wee bit of surface rust at the top looks worse in photo, the sill has a couple of holes at the bottom and front but this is to be replaced anyway, inner arch has expected rot where it meets the wing, again I have a new inner tub ready to go in, nose panel where the 4 bolts are is perfect. Also remove lower rear sill, not impressed with the pattern repair panel, will need some work to get a very good fit, seems too long. Had to stop for a while as there was a show on locally and the last remaining Vulcan bomber was buzzing the unit, awesome sight and sound [:0]

cheers, Paul

That looks such a good car to start with - I'm very envious! What are you planning for the front panel and rear deck seams? The one front seam is cracked on mine and just starting to show signs of rust - when it gets repaired I want to make sure it's done properly but not sure whether this should be seam welded, brazed or lead loaded..

On the front seam I was just planning on treating both mating faces properly with anti rust paints , maybe a bit of topcoat as well , then a bead of seam sealer prior to fitting the wing, then pull the bolts up. Don't think there is supposed to be a weld or anything down this joint and the one I just too off wasn't, happy to be corrected.

Cheers, Paul
