As for the timing thing, once you get used to it it isn't a big deal.
Later MGs (late 60's on) had their timing marks on top which is certainly better than the TR7 distributor being hidden under the intake tray-What a pain that is!
I have done away with the distributor on the Magnette altogether and fitted a Megajolt system. That is the way to go. I hope to put one on the TR7 over the winter.
