well she's running good now!

Postby mb4tim » 11 Jul 2009 03:54

Me and the neighbor were out in the garage for a spell tonight, and got to tinkering. Wouldn't you know it, one of the injector wires was broken, and the other on that injector was one by just a few strands. Well, we fixed that up.

If you kept your foot on the gas, she hummed like a Honda.

But, she just wouldn't hold an idle. Then I remember hearing, if there's an air leak, it won't idle. So we poked around with the flash light and don't you know it, we found the air leak.

The big fax air hose from the air cleaner box to the throttle body (remember this is a fuel injected model) was ragged and full of holes. So, I covered her up with my glove, neighbor started her up , and she hummed along at about 100 RPM.

Well, at 11:00 on a Saturday night, we aren't finding airbox hose for an 81 TR7 anywhere! I don't think we'd find it at noon on a Monday. either.

but, I'll tell you what I did have... gorilla tape. Three strips around covered the hole thing, and guess what. We played with the timing, then took her for a ride. She ran just fine.

So, I got a guy coming tomorrow morning to check her out, let's hope he likes it.

It's often the simple things, it's just finding them. Although I didn't have any air hose leaks I covered it with duct tape angle about 45 degrees so I had double coverage, then wound it with white cord to duplicate the original look. Cost... a few cents.

So you're selling the car then?

I've been trying to sell it. We are planning a move once our home sells, and it's one less very large thing to move.

I have a 71 MGB that I tore down in 1998, and I'd like to get it back together.

but, if it doesn't sell, I'll start giving it a good run all over town on a regular basis.

Tim,

I know your heart is with the MG, but all on this forum think you are selling the wrong car.

Good luck,

Rob

it's a tough decision, but if it doesn't sell the weekend, I'm keeping both. Sound better?

John,

I have the same t-shirt and concur with the sentiment. Of course loud guffaws ensue from my colleagues when I wear it.[:D]

that shirt hurts...LOL.

zekow-I won't leave, I'll continue to haunt you guys.

In any case, I added a poorly shot video of the car actually starting, running, and moving!

You can see it at http://www.tgnagy.com/tr7/ if you scroll down a little.

A club member wore that T-shirt to a meeting only with MG and Triumph reverse. I replied with several pro Triumph T-shirts which evolved into various other marques where I would give clues and they would guess the car (T-shirt) picked that month. That evolved into "car of the month" segment in our monthly meetings. 5 years later still a part of our meetings that everyone enjoys. Who says MG's are good for nothing?[:)]
