I assume this is probably a flasher unit...

Postby swifty » 13 May 2009 17:21

Just started having problems with my hazards; The nearside both work fine, but on the offside, the front flashes while the rear stays on all the time. Then after a little while the front offside stays on permanently as well. Any suggestions? Also, if it is the flashers; how many flasher units are there on a TR7?

Two if I remember correctly, one for indicators and one for hazard.

Yes, two flasher relays as Beans states.

I wouldn't think it is the relay causing the problem if it only affects one side - I would start by cleaning the earths & plug connections for the sidelight & rear light units on that side.

Ok now I get three flashing at the start with the rear drivers side permanently on, and then they all slow down and end up permanently on! Is this still likely to be a bad earth? Electrics are not my strong point... but damn frustrating as they all worked fine a couple of months ago when last used

The indicator wiring is connected through the hazard switch as well as the indicator stalk on the steering column. Might be worth pulling the hazard switch from the dash & checking the contacts in there.

Have you cleaned all the earths?

The indicator relay is under the dash near the steering column - you can see it if you look up from the footwell. It is usually held in a small metal clip - there are two wires to the relay in an L shaped plug. Won't do any harm to check/clean there as well.

Thanks Tony,
there was indeed a bad earth at the rear which has been sorted now, but I also had a "lazy" flasher unit which I've swapped with another and all work fine now....all the light testing even seems to have inadvertently cured the "one eyed wink" problem with the front headlights that also recently appeared. I love the electrics on these cars...[xx(]

Cleaning the earths can sort a lot of problems - even ones you are not expecting[:D]

Glad you got it sorted.
