"We don't really care if nasty old smokey Daewoos end up being cubed, but we do care about real retro motors.

We believe that by restarting the rolling 25yr Historic road tax class - you now, the free one - that this will not only encourage cars to be recycled but it will also help save old cars for future generations and give hard-up motorists a real break in this nasty, deep recession.

Aparently some proper old cars have been scraped in Germany as a result of their scrapage scheme and as a result BMH are behind this. Cheers all.

I'd sign but not a Brit. I guess the fact my fore fathers seven generations ago on my mothers side were from Britain/maybe Scotland doesn't count (nee Wilson).[:o)]

According to family legend, many generations ago an ancestor was given the choice of hanging or immigration to the New World. Supposedly the local Suffolk authorities were displeased with the chosen colors he painted the wagon. Apparently 'French Blue' was not in fashion at the time.

I'd recommend going for a rolling 30 year limit - that's what we have in Sweden, and some other EU member states.
30 years will be easier to negotiate with taxhungry politicians, while still make all Wedges road tax excempt within
a year or two - and who cares about those Honda Ballade's in disguise?!

(Over here the rolling limit also give us bi-annual, as opposed to annual, MOT inspection interval.
Total cost* for my '80 TR8 will go down to a mere SEK835/~GBP70 per year...)

*This is including an unlimited mileage full cover insurance, ½ a MOT inspection and the SORN/NoSORN fee. [:D]
But + fuel and fuel taxes of course...[}:)]

good luck with this! ours in maryland is 20 years, no inspection or anything else, just need insurance which for a 'historic' vehicle is very inexpensive. one of the very few good things in maryland..........

Its going to be a real problem in the future. I recently bought a really nice DHC, 52,000 miles rust free and never been welded. The previous owner had no further use for it and said that if he hadnt sold it(for more than the allowance), he would drive it this summer and then get the scrappage allowance next winter. The fixed head could disappear as their relatively low price means the scrappage deal offers more money than they are selling for.

I've signed. It would be a real shame to loose TR7's for a measly £2000 scrappage allowance, and if they were tax exempt their value would certainly be higher!

Ive also signed it, even if mine were worth £2.000, i wouldnt part with mine, not after all the hard graft ive put into it, im proud of her, and the more 7's we can strive to keep on the road the better its survival chances.

I have added my name...again. I don't think this grotty government will do anything about it, particularly in these times. They are grabbing all they can get.
Noted in the paper today that 2011/12 they are introducing a £5k subsidy for electric cars - and planning to have road pricing in place by then to make up for the loss in fuel duty.

Added my name - only the 200th one though. This does not seem as popular as the one calling on Gordon Brown to resign which has attracted over 28,654!

The word needs to be spread amongst owners of cars from 1976 to 1984!
