Headlamp flash (or lack thereof)

Postby Philip » 08 Mar 2009 11:36

I spent a happy few hours this morning on the headlamps. Replaced the run-stop relays with new Bosch ones and swapped the non-functioning headlamp flash relay for the good one I took out. Result is wondeful headlamp action on the master switch and still no flash. When I pull the column switch, the lamps light but there no power to the relay and the pods dont lift. Is there a fuse I am missing somwehere or should I suspect my Pektron unit ?

It might very well be so that your car has the American harness design? From your description it sounds like it.
(For some reason they didn't get the so called 'flash-to-pass' function...)

Fixed ! Bought a Pektron from a swap meet at the local classic car club, fitted it and now flash works too !

Does anyone have an idea how to diagnose Pektron faults ? 'cause I now have a duff Pektron that I would like to have a go at fixing.

When I rebuilt my pektron I pried open the case and then removed and replaced all the electronic components on the printed circuit board.
If I remember correctly, there are a few diodes, some resistors, transistors, a capacitor or two and a zenna diode. I got the bits from Radio Parts for a few bucks.

if you have a local Maplins and your lucky to find a nice shop assistant who has some idea of electronics he'll tell you which diod to replace, or maybe a old type tv repair man would piont you in the right direction..

ofcourse it's not always the pektron units fault sometimes it's the blasted master switch
