LPG

Has/does anyone run their TR7 on LPG ? As an addition to that theme - is there a single carb inlet manifold available for these engines ? Was the original SAAB 99 single carb ?

Thanks! Yes - LPG conversion is common on the Rover V8 engine. My problem is to get a single inlet - either by using a single carb manifold or by somehow converting the twin inlet into a single ! Anyone got a single inlet manifold for sale ?

Don't know of any TR7's on LPG but Dollie 1850's are known to run on it without any problems

If there's a kit to run a Holley equipped V8 on LPG I could commute to work in the summer!!

Then again the only LPG pump close to me is in the local Sainsburys. They've put it right in the centre of their arrangement so anyone filling up has to use that one and only pump amongst twelve others. Plenty of arguements as LPG cars jostle for position..............

Plenty of kits for V8 engines - just search for LPG on ebay! I'm sure the lesser cars will stand aside if you turn up in a V8 TR7 to fill it up daily with LPG!

'Bruce', a TR7V8 runs on both petrol and gas .... the changeover is seemless and the difference in power neglible ... a massive positive for the car.

I run mine on lpg, did when it was a 7 and still do now it is a v8, both keeping the original twin SU carbs with mixers, omvl 2 stage vaporizer and torodial tank in the spare wheel well.

V8 does between 24 and 16 to the gallon depending on how it is driven, 7 did mid to low 20's. Performance does not seem that different to petrol, the emissions are much lower and the oil stays clean..

Well remembered jclay. I have funnily enough just this day sold my TR7V8 with LPG.
It was a simple system that inserted the gas just before the Air Flow Meter on an EFI system which had the advantage that you could instantly change from LPG to petrol or vice versa by switching off/on the injectors and swiching on/off the gas simulataneously. In carburator systems you have to wait until the petrol in the fuel bowl is used up before starting the gas otherwise you would run very rich having both fuels at the same time.
