Hi Paul,
Sorry to hear more bad luck mate [:(]
As far as MOT concerned, plating is fine as long as continous weld (not brazed), of a similar thickness to the original, be at least as strong as what was there and exstend to good metal (rust is always a bu66er to weld to!!!) You cant plate suspension arm ect but floors ect no problem.I think there is a repair section available for that area.
As you said could have been far worse.
Anything i can do you know where i can be found!
Cheers John

Thanx guys,Ian F came round today to give me a hand. You are always
right Theo, there was alot of bodging found under there!Must have been
a complete can of expanding foam squirted liberally around and plated/
painted over.So we set about getting shot of the crap and Ian thinks
the surrounding metal is plenty good enough to weld to.He is kindly
going to find time this week to give me a hand cutting plates and welding
the thing.hopefully this gives me a wedge i can drive to Stoneleigh!
Many thanks Ian - this forum is blessed with great members.

See ya. Paul

[:D]specially that we are talking about a Grinnall as they are normally very very crusty
if it was my car i would as Beans says remove all the under side coating just to be sure it is solid as i have seen some of this Grinnall`s where the under side is separating from the galvanized body kit
the Grinnall`s have a very very poor welding
they normally require a full restoration

So sorry to hear about your predicament Paul. I've only been out of work a short while and some days everything seems to get me down. Things can only get better! Good Luck, Deb x
