Hey guys,
Thanks for your encouragement with the photos, and for the kind words on my car. Looks like I need an even smaller photo. I found it easier to deal with the photos at work where I have two large monitors. I can't really claim much credit for the car's condition. I passed up a couple of rougher TR7 convertibles in the past few years, and stumbled upon this one while looking for shade at the Portland Historic Races last summer. It took a month to convince my wife that I needed it. The final argument was that it would be kept in my mother's garage in Oregon rather than our garage here in Anchorage. It's mostly original; my mechanic could find no evidence of rust or major accident repair. Paint is original, though crazed. The fact that it was fairly sound mechanically was the icing on the cake. Biggest shortcoming is the interior; looks like the driver's seat was eaten by a dog. I'm going to get to spend a couple of weeks a year with it, so I'll be working out a few other issues as time allows. Mostly I want to drive it!

Hello Ken

Ken, is that what you'd call a barn find?[:D]

If seats, foam, rubber diaphrams, all you have to replace you're laughing. It will give you better support as well.

The original paint is TPA (thermo plastic acrylic) and it sprays on a little dull and is then heated to give a high gloss finish. It does craze under the sun with time. Not very resistant to solvents, etc. Not exactly a modern paint system but apparently Jaguar and Rolls Royce used it back in the day as well.

Not exactly a barn find, but it appears to have seen a lot more storage than driving. The paint does indicate it spent some time outside, though. I'm planning to keep the paint, crazing and all. I like the original look.

It almost looked black in the shade the first time I saw it; I was pleased with the color. I like the wheels, too, but I might go for some 14" or 15" five-spokes eventually. I also have the original factory alloy wheels. The front sits pretty low; the previous owners raced another TR8, and I suspect they played a bit with this one too. It handles and stops very well, but bottoms out crossing railroad tracks, so I'll probably look at raising it a little.

When I picked up mine it would bottom out on the cat cage on any speed bump reguardless how slow I took it. After replacing front springs with regular (90 lb.) it is better but I still take it easy. Haven't done the back ones yet.

PS: the reference to "barn find" was the barn in background.

I think when I get back to Oregon in the spring, I'll put it up in the air and see if I can figure out what the previous owner did to lower it. I don't want to change things too much, 'cause I like the way it handles on most roads.

I got your barn connection... I did once find a Bugeye Sprite in a shed across the road from this barn!

Hi, I think I've got the hang of this photbucket lark now and I quite like it [;)]. I am just starting to put the pieces of the biggest ever jigsaw puzzle I've ever done [:0] back together and will update my photos as I go. Please bear with me as a burst appendix [xx(] means I'll be off the car for 3 months [V] but I hope to be on the road by the summer [8D].

I think I'll be calling on you guys for more expert advice as I go along [?], as so far you've all been superb. I've added a few more pictures of how it looks now bits are going back on - feel free to have a browse.

Cheers,

Mac

Get better soon Mac. Looks like you're uploading thumbnail size photos. Try uploading them straight from the memory card.

Thanks Peter. I think that if you click on the album links on the left side of the screen you will be able to get full size pictures from there (I think [?]).

Whereabouts are you in NZ? I was down your way last Novemeber.

We flew into Christchurch then drove down to Queenstown, around to Te Anau and walked the Milford Track then drove back to Queenstown. From there we drove up to Wanaka, where we jumped out of a perfectly serviceable airplane from 12 000 ft before driving back to Christchurch. We then flew to Auckland and drove down to Tauranga, then on to Rotorua and back up to Auckland before having to come home to work for a living. The only shame is that we were in a minibus, and not a TR7. Now that would probably be one of the greatest journeys in the world.

Maybe one day....

My mistake, those albums on the left eluded me. What's the story behind the red dash?

I'm in Wellington. Great town to live but not on the usual list of tourist spots. Sounds like you saw all the good bits though. Hope we treated you well.

Peter,

I don't know, but if you are working on a Mac computer, the photo Albums will not take your photos. It is because of the file name structure. Transfer your photos to a PC and they will load right in, if they are the correct size.

Hi Peter. Thanks for your help. That was my second trip to NZ, and as you asked - the people are so fantastic I am definitely planning my third. I've travelled a fair bit, and I can categorically state that my favourite place in the whole world is New Zealand.

I don't know if I can get to Wellington next time, but if I do I'll certainly try to get in touch. It will probably be 18 months, so don't hold your breath. Thanks again,

Mac

I would recommend that indeed [;)]As it is (in your picture) I wouldn't get it out of the street were I live. Wouldn't get over an avarage speed bump ...

Otherwise nice looking car [:)]
