Wheel question..

Postby windy one » 22 Jan 2009 21:36

My lastest addition, a 1979 TR7 in Red, has a set of wheels on it that I dont think I have seen before. They bolt on and fit nice, and should polish-up pretty well.

My question to ya's is.....does anyone recognise and/or have any info or insite on these wheels?? Nothing major on my end, I am just curious about them because of all the TR7's-8's I have ever seen I dont think I ever seen this style before (I thought they were wheels off of a MG, but there is a bit of a style difference between these & the ones Ive seen on MG's). They do have the British-Leyland insignia on the center cap. Im going to keep them on for the time being, untill I possibly go for a set of 14's.

I just posted the pic's of my new car & the wheels that are on it in my photo-album.

HI,

Nice wheels but I don't recognise them from any production car let alone a Triumph.

About 10 years ago, a neighbour of mine ran a TVR S as an everday car. His alloys looked much like yours but you've most likely got aftermarket wheels.

i believe those are BBS wheels. i remember seeing them advertised in many Road and Track magazines in the 80's for fitting to Fiats, BMW 320's and i believe our beloved TR7/8's.

i'll in one of my old Road and Track magazines and see if i can find advertsment of the wheel.

I think the wheels are either Cosmics, Alley Cats or Wolfe Racing. I have seen them before years ago.......

Hey John,

Maybe you can look inside the wheels and see something in the casting that will give you a clue. Also, post on the BritishCarForum and BritishV8 to check with the experts there.

Thanx jclay, and thanx everyone for the replies :)

My current wheels do appear to look like the ones in Beans photo, the green car.

I think they are the same.
Cars are from a friend, will have a look when I am over at his place.
Am a bit busy at the moment though so might take a while ...

I posted earlier that these might be BBS wheels, I was wrong and have found the advertisment in a road and track magazine. See photo below:

Nice find tr7sprint1!

I was thinking of selling/swapping for rims better suited to my taste. But my $$ needs to go to a new engine, so Im gonna hang on to them for a while. They are nicer than the (stock) steel wheels.
