A big thank you

Postby samco » 19 Jul 2008 07:58

When I began my restoration I had no idea of the existence of this forum and found it purely by accident. I really thought that since I owned my first wedge in 1982 they were still as unloved and I would be out there on my own. This forum and the people who populate it have been a constant source of information and encouragement. Certainly this forum in particular will help keep the wedge on the road as the flow of information and spares availability must be easier now for clasic cars than it has ever been. Since I joined this forum I have been exposed to other car forums and have been surprised at how vitriolic some people can be about other peoples cars and just downright rude. I think as the wedge is often unloved there is a common bond that binds us all together, almost an "its us against the world" feeling that runs through us all. We might not like other peoles cars or disagree with their view but no one is ever rude enough to say it.

So I say well done and thank you one and all.

See you at Malvern for "Betty's" big day

If it doesn't fit you obviously need a bigger hammer.

Totally agree. I too belong to other car forums. They can be a lttle tetchy at times unlike this one which does seem like a close club even though everybody is spread over the globe

Cheers, Jerry

I think we all owe you a thank you for keeping us entertained with
your posts on building 'Black Betty' Sam. Really hope to see you at
Malvern with her on Sunday.Like you i thought that i was the only
idiot out there that liked the wedge, untill i met John Clancy at
Stoneleigh a couple of years ago.Seems like there's an awful load of
idiots about,esp.on this forum!

See ya. Paul

Your right about there being an awful lot of idiots around Paul, &
thank god for that. Otherwise our cars would be too expensive for a
few of us, & much too expensive for a lot of us to have multiple
versions of same, the way we do now.

Long may the prejudice reign.

Sam,

Your "Black Betty" is really an inspiration to me! I now have a TR7 Spider in need of a total restoration and you have set the standard for me to try and obtain.

Won't be at Malvern, don't really know where it is!, but I will be thinking of you and your car as I start the work on the Spider. As far as this forum goes, I obviously spend a lot of time here.

Thanks for leading the way and setting the standard for black cars!

Have fun, drive fast & safe, be kewl,

jclay

The underdog will always be under estimated.

These cars are a challenge to keep road worthy.
And also a challenge to make them better and go faster.
So it's rewarding when you can.

And if we agree to disagree sometimes, that's ok.

But in a parallel universe, an Aston Martin would be very nice. [:)]

I could not agree more. I am also a member of a couple of other forums. From one you often you get no reply or a sarcastic comment back. The latest i joined seems to be rather like this one, it is for Rover 800's - rover800.co.uk, the people on there are helpful, supportive and knowledeable just like here. Maybe because the cars are similar, under rated, much maligned, unpopular, not worth anything, have suspect electrics etc. But i think they are great cars, comfortable and nice to drive, i have owned 6 now over the years. The latest is a Vitesse coupe - and i love it as much as i do my TR7.

Thanks John, i will bear you in mind when something goes wrong - notice i said "when" not "if". I was pretty chuffed that i managed to get one the windows and the frame out to replace the motor that had gone a while ago, quite a task on the coupe. Thanks again.

Hi Simon,
Well done mate [:D] doing a TR7 regulator after slaying that beast would be easy!! They had the same set up on the 200 series coupe but twice the size on the 800 with even more adjustments.
Whoops sorry for hijacking the thread [:I]
Cheers John
