Stereo and speakers

Postby mmarks » 19 May 2008 12:36

When I bought my 1977 FHC (UK) it had no sound system and no speakers, but the door cards had been replaced and have circular holes in them for speakers.

The metal hole in the door behind the door card is bigger than the hold in the door card, what is the biggest size speaker that I can fit in there? I don't want to go down the route of the original speakers as I do listen to my stereo a lot and want some good ones in there.

On a similar subject, the slot for a stereo has been cut by a previous owner for a bigger (DIN D) unit but the mounting depth is not very large. Is there anything back there that can be removed in order to fit a deeper stereo?

Many thanks,

Mike

OK thanks for that!!!!!

Do other owners have 'smaller' depth stereos (assuming they play CD etc)

The most radios stick out a little bit, slice black tape on the metal, this the easiest solution.

As a side point, can you mount 6X3 speakers on the rear panel, or does the petrol tank prevent it...........[?]

I am also trying to track down a suitable FM radio to fit and that does not stick out to much - there appear to be a couple of suppliers in the USA who offer suitable units;

www.vintagecarradio.com
www.retrosoundusa.com

I have emailed both of them to see if they ship to the UK, but if anyone else knows anything about them I would like to hear from them.
