A/C Installation

I've owned a 1979 wedge and a 1979 spitfire back when they were new, and I'm now interested in renewing that fun. I'm looking at a 1980 wedge that was built without factory air. I would use this as a daily driver in San Antonio, so I'm considering a retrofit.

Are there any good kits and/or ariticles out there on the subject.

The only thing I can suggest is Google search or more to the point try talking to your local A/C shop and see if any are sympathetic to installing an aftermarket in a collector (discontinued) car. Some owners/employees are willing to work on/with British cars/car owners for the novelty/challenge of it.

Whenever you actually buy the car, please post your last name and address. We will then arrange to deliver the compressor mounting bracket to you. The mounting bracket can be difficult to find, and we don't use an A/C on ours.

I really can't imagine a simpler stock A/C system to install. What's the advantage to installing a non existent after market one? You can buy a complete new in car assembly for $400, probably another $100 for a used compressor,condenser, fans, lines and hardware. One weekend to install the in car assembly and another for the under hood parts. That should leave enough money left over to intall one of Woody's nice new aluminum radiators. I would think with R134 that would freeze you out of the car and keep your engine cool. YMMV '
