progress report bumper hang ups and engine

Postby birminghamtr7 » 19 Nov 2007 09:58

now i feel i'm getting somewhere, i have spend more than a few hours getting bumper to sit right, how i wanted as the rubber on the american spec never seemed to me to sit back enough into the body line on wings / fenders. and of course the droop happens to us all as we get older !! so with a bit of fettling etc its about right heres a pic or 2 trim is just sat loose.
also engine is just about done a few bits a bobs to complete spin on adaptor and waiting for some stainless bolts to come in. ( stainless bolts have become a bit of a obsetion with me, but worth it i think.

Stainless bolts - need to check they are correct strength for the job in hand. Also note that stainless when connected with steel creates an electrolytic cell if any damp present - and the steel rots away. Stainless bolts should really only be used to connect stainless steel parts.

Simon,hope it will be ready for next years NEC,body looks superb. To get a neater look with the front bumper you can use FHC bumper bar.

Totally agree with Chris. I used a Fhc front bumper iron on my Dhc and am really pleased with the result. Car does look great Simon, it should be a real stunner when you've got it finished.

In addition to BMC's remark;
Never ever use stainless steel bolts for suspension parts or other highly stressed applications.
You can use them to mount brackets, sump etc. but only if you use a proper anti seize paste on them (zinc based if I remember correctly).

Oh ... and the car is starting to look quite nice indeed [;)]

mb4tim... With a little spit and polish yours could look like this. Just removed air plenum to get at some stuff and cleaned it up. Painted battery shelf, LH side of engine, valve cover, plenum, heater metal hoses, restrung intake hose. Didn't have to pull out engine. Made a big difference.
