HEI distributor for Rover V8?

Postby RJS » 03 Nov 2007 19:24

Can anyone tell me if the HEI distributor for a Buick 215 will work on the Rover V8 (basically stock 1980 TR8)?

If not, what would you suggest to replace my distributor? I’m sure in the UK it is no big deal to get something like this for a Rover V8, but in the US people at the auto parts store get that glazed over look when I even mention Rover V8.

I run the Mallory dual point mechanical advance with one set of points removed. The points are only used to trigger the MSD 6AL box I have. As mentioned, there are many choices. I did it this way years ago since it's the same setup I run on the MG. Niether system has ever given a problem. On the TR8 I did have to purchace an MSD Tach Adapt to get the stock tach to work. As I understand it, the HEI unit will work but as noted, the driven gear will need changed to the Rover one. Not a big deal as you can use the one off the old Lukas unit.
