Owen, I will agree that this is THE best TR7/TR8 forum on the web, but at a risk of offending forum admins, that isn’t saying a whole lot… It can be a lot better! There was some talk about upgrading the forum software over a year ago, but I haven’t seeing anything on that front…
And we should make an effort to make this more of an international forum! At this time, it comes across as predominately a UK forum. Not that there anything wrong with England, but that might be keeping some of the US members from frequenting it as much as they otherwise would…
I would love to see this forum morph into the THE central forum for all TR7/TR8 needs, but it just isn’t there yet!
Odd, I am very familiar with the list vs the forum dilemma, 3+ years ago, I was an owner/ administrator for ~400 member e-mail list. All of our polls, showed that people wanted to keep it in the e-mail list format. However, I took the initiative (with the help of another web-designer/member) to create a forum alternative with certain specific rules that are absent on many web forums:
-Treat all members with respect (this isn’t a big problem with-in the wedge community )
-EVERYONE must fill out their profile: which must display their real first name/first initial of the last name in the signature field, as well as their location.
-EVERYONE must make an effort make their post as presentable as possible. To assist with this, our site offers an imbedded spell checker.
As for the searchable achieves, you can not beat search engines that are offered by the modern forum software packages!
Anyway, with-in a month, 95% of people have voluntarily moved over to the forum. We might have lost ~5 members (out of 400) who outright refused to use the forum. But as far as I am concerned, it is their loss!
And you are correct about wealth of information on the e-mail list, which is why I expressed my amazed that Rob wasn’t on that list. Until we find a central location, everyone should be a member of the e-mail list (in addition to this forum)!
Mods, I sorry for taking this discussion off the original topic, feel free to split it off into a topic of its own.
