steering wheel and other questions

Postby skertonman » 19 May 2016 11:35

Hi all,

have just recently brought a '79 FHC out of storage, having bought it off a neighbour.

As such i've got several questions, and hope that someone will be able to answer them.

1) It's got it's original steering wheel fitted which feels a bit spindley, are the later wheels chunkier to hold?
2) The interior mirror is a bit on the small side, are there any other Leyland or other mirrors available as a straight or easy swap?
3) The car runs, but is running like a bag of spanners, can anyone recommend a decent garage near Warrington who can assist, (carb set up mainly). I'm close to TR Bitz but unfortunately they don't deal with 7's.

Thanks in advance
Phil

Hi Phil

A few photos would help.

I will be in Oakwood in about 3 weeks and can pop over and have a look?

In regards to question 1. The TR8, TR7 Spider and 30th Edition have leather covered steering wheels that have some heft to them although they are 13" and with Spider and 30th Edition is something akin to driving a go-cart with their manual steering. I got the 14" identical looking replacement from the Wedgeshop but the screw holes are bigger and require bigger screws and some drilling of holes in mount. There are other leather coovered wheel subs out there that are similar (holes it spokes, etc) but not sure of their mounting holes. Some people mount 90's style boy racer steering wheels but they look out of place as they are the wrong decade design (if that bothers you).

Thanks for the offers guys, Chris I've no idea where Oakwood is, but the kettles always on, and I've got a good selection of tools if needed.

Here's a few photos
