What a top bloke!!!! S+S Preparations

Postby Brianc » 12 Jan 2016 14:49

Been across to see Steve at s&s this morning, just to get some ideas as what needs doing on the tr7 v8 dhc i bought at the end of last year.

It was the first time i have driven it and quite a few gremlins were at work, but no hard sell from steve, just great advice.

I have booked my car in for some work that does need doing with no stress at all.

If you read this steve, the temp gauge and voltmeter are now fine, and once i got past the wheel wobble at 50mph the car is awsome!!!!!!

I cannot recommend these folk enough

Brian, our "special" TR7 wheel wobble from unbalanced, or out of round wheels/tyres begins at just under 60 MPH, & should be gone at 65.

If it continues to higher speeds, look for a tyre with the tread parting company with the case, or very large flat spots from sitting too long.

If your wheel wobble is from around 50 MPH it will usually be of lower frequency, but greater magnitude than our unbalance wobble. In this case look to wheel alignment. This wobble indicates usually toe out, but can be caused by excessive to in. This will wear either the inside or outside block of tread, [toe out wears the inside edge & vice versa], very quickly.

I bought their V8 conversion kit back in 1991. They advertised it as a "kit in a box", I never did get the box but I did manage to blow the head gasket then seize the engine on the company van I borrowed on the way home.

I drove up from North London prepared with lots of questions. They answered all of them and gave me lots of extra advice plus didn't mind a couple of phone calls as I converted the car in the coming weeks.

Looks like nothing's changed then........ Top blokes. And TR7V8's are awesome :D :D

Couldn't agree more. I went for a visit a couple of years ago to buy some bits and bobs and discuss the TR7 I'd just bought. He was happy to spend as much time with me as I wanted listening to and answering my random questions, and showing me around his premises. I was considering buying a reconditioned body shell they had in storage at the time using mine as a parts car, but never did.

In the end he made me realise the work that would go into restoring my 7 properly, and I think he thinks I was put off but on the contrary, he made me go away and think about it correctly. When I comes to putting mine back together he'll be the guy I go to first for parts.

Couldn't recommend them more.
