What first ?

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

After a couple of attempts I finally changed my brake pads and shims today. I know its not much, but its the first thing I have managed to do on my TR7 and I am feeling chuffed. Its so far cured the squeaking as well :D

Ready for the next job on the list ...

I had time to strip down one side on Friday. I managed to get one brake pad out but the other was stuck fast in there. I might be doing something wrong but couldn't shift it - might be what the squeaking noise is ? I may run it into a garage just to get them cleaned up.

If the pad is stuck that tight in the caliper it will most likely be affecting your braking as well because it needs to move freely, it can cause the brakes to drag as well. When you finally manage to get it out you will have to clean the surfaces of the caliper where it touches and clean the edges of the pad as well. You could apply a very small amount of copper grease on the edges when you put it back. Often do that on mine and sometimes the paint on the edges of new pads needs filing down as well.
