Battery Clamp (and Type)

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Battery Clamp (and Type)

Postby TonyS » 25 Jan 2015 17:20

Presumably it's just general incompetence but I couldn't work out where to hook the 'J' bolts on the battery clamp this afternoon - any clues please?!

Also, any suggestions on the best battery to use - stick with a Type 038 or are there other possibilities that may be better?

The 015 battery is the heavy duty version of the 038. I bought one a year ago.

One J bolt hooks into the circular hole of the adjacent suspension turret. IIRC the other fits under the corner of the battery tray. If you line up the battery, the top rail that takes the J bolts and fit the forward one into the hole in the turret, the positioning of the rear one should become clear.

I hooked mine up to hole in turret as suggested and the other end on a hole on firewall. Requires unequal length J clamps so you need to buy two pair but they are cheap. I put some heat shrink on the curved part so there was no metal touching paint. When I replaced my battery last summer (replacing my 7 year old one that was with the car when I bought it) I got it at a battery specialist store as they had the best price. It was a maintenance free and the guy behind the counter said is used cadmium (I believe) in it to help prevent sulphating. Picture is not of current battery but just show the turret J clamp as the other is out of sight.
