Paint Contents

Postby FI Spyder » 01 May 2009 06:02

Does anyone have the paint contents of the Spiders Maraschino Black paint code PCF? Last year I painted the RH door with just black aeresol paint and you couldn't tell other than a slightly different texture compared to the thermal acrylic from the factory. This year I repaired a little ding on leading edge above bumper (previous PO's, not mine) and I painted with same paint and on the horizontal surface it looks charcoal. Went to paint place and they didn't have the code in the computer (but they had Poseidon Metalic Green for TCT). I'd rather not have to assemble the bumper and put it on to get a machine reading then have to take it off to repaint. I was going to try the paint for the Integra but they said in the small amount for aerosol can they couldn't put in the silver metalic or the red purl and suggested I use stock gloss black. I used that and it's the same stuff. Looks black except when next to the Spiders paint in horizontal plane it looks charcoal. If no ones got the contents I may have to go to the trouble doing the bumper twice.

I checked Dupont, who used to have a great colour library, but they have simplified it so much that there is almost nothing there now for BL cars; sorry.

Here's a bit more information about the colour codes according to mg-rover.org:

Rover:
PCF Maraschino black 1981-1984
PDE Maraschino Black 1981-1984

Another site lists PDE Maraschino Black as being a 1981 Jaguar colour.

When I was looking to get paint for my Spitfire the paint store was able to find the BASF paint code I wanted by using the original three letter paint code (CAE for Vermillion) but they had to look under either Rover, MG Rover, British Leyland or BL, not Triumph.
