weather seal

Postby nofinchance » 03 Apr 2009 18:58

I have to replace my drivers door weather seal as the door does not have one at all[:0].I have the seal and the clips but see from previous posts that I need a 'special tool ' to aid fitting.I am thinking it is the kinda thing you only need once so does anyone have a 'one careful owner'[:D]used one I can buy,or loan or something? If not it's broken finger nails and very unlady like language coming from my garage.[:(!]

Which seal....the one that seals the door to the unibody, or the ones that seal the window-channel on the door?

Not sure about the careful owner but still works, you place the clip in the bottom section and then whilst holding the seal down with one hand pull the clip on using the tool with the other hand. Apprently modelled on what thet used on the prodution line.

Cheers John.

If the door card is off anyway to clean and grease the window winder, paint the 1/4 window frame, clean and grease the door lock, replace window channels, clean up any rust in lower door area, waxoil bottom part of door or what ever, with the window out the clips are easily pushed up by hand into position. If the waist seal is gone it's probably time to take the stuff out of the door and clean/grease/replace stuff anyway. I did it that way to my Spider and will have to do it to my TCT. If your going to have to do part of it you may as well do it all, do it right and forget about it for next 30 years.

Hi john,I think it was you who told me about the need for a fitting tool.If I could borrow it that would be great[:D] I will return it after use.I will pm you my address. So it is the exact item used on the production line [:0] no wonder they were always on strike! nuff said [:D].
Mr Spyder.I am with you on the do it 'belt and braces' I have already waxoiled the bonnet, boot and sills as the carpet was up for rust hunting.I sprayed a little through the gap made from the missing widow seal into the door[:o)].I will do a proper job when the door card is off.
