Insurance/ Alternator

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Here in the UK the standard alternator is relatively cheap and the parts to maintain them/rebuild them are readily available. But if someone wants to put a more powerful unit on for any reason then there shouldn't be any problems. If all is well with a car though and standard equipment only is in place then the standard alternator should give years of reliable service.

I used to have all sorts of lighting upgrades and nonsense on my car and I got through alternators regularly. Put it all back to standard and no more wearing out alternators. Probably a lesson for a lot of us there.

Merry Christmas to all.

My standard alternator even after being rebuilt to the highest standard, could not drive wipers, lights ventilation fan & the radio, without slowly discharging the battery. No doubt the electrical system had developed some areas of high resistance, preventing it from achieving its full potential.

When I had the air conditioning fitted, I bought a kit including an 85 amp alternator, & have no worries now.
