My first TR7

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

My first TR7

Postby gregtheo » 17 Mar 2014 17:54

Evening everyone, the other day I won a TR7 on ebay for the pricely sum of £265! Went to pick it up last friday and was very impressed by how well it runs even though its been sat for 2 years!
Its an Inca Yellow 1978 FHC with a Webasto sunroof. Its done 86,000 miles and runs beautifully.
The bodywork looks worse than it is really, it only needs 2 or 3 areas of welding, the worst being under the bottom of the windscreen. Other than those couple of patches its just scabby.
This is my first restoration but my dad owns 2 other TR7's so he is pointing me in the right direction with some of the bits I'm unsure on.

Here's a couple of photos of it when I got it home.

Thanks mate, dad seems to have given me the TR bug! :P

Has anyone got any idea of where I can get hold of a new sunroof? The vinyl is torn and will need replacing but it has metal runners and they are in perfect condition so don't need then!

Welcome to the "club". It seems most Englishmen become quite proficient with a welder due to rainy weather and lack of garages for older cars.[8D]

Greg / Check out Events/Members Cool Wall. No need to be in the TR-Drivers Club to be on it. All a part of the TR7s 40th Anniversary. Big event coming up in September - a Wedge-gathering at Coventry with Harris Mann and a host of others!
By the way, the Cool Wall is now officially The Wedge Wall - all TR7s are Cool!

A TR7 and a Westfalia camper! A man after my own tastes. They look good together!

Not many with a T prefix, you have done very well.[:)] I suspect this to be a very late Speke car, not a Canley car as the badging suggests.

Do the first three digits of the vin number begin with ACG or TCG ?

A warm welcome to the forum Greg, keep us all up to date with the restoration.

It is so nice to see a car that is not going to be broken up for bit and that you are going to do it up. Good luck, I hope it goes well and you are on the road soon.

With the sunroof I had the same issue with mine, it needed replacing. I found a place in London called something like coach builders solutions or something with the word coach builders in it. They took my old frame and put new material on it for a reasonable price. I will try and dig out the details and get them to you.
