All was fine and it had only been about 5 min into the drive around on a cold stormy day (car was undercover and not wet). I turned the lights on, but they were a bit weak, so I turned them off again.
After a few more times up and down, the engine suddenly cut out and I had nothing, no lights on the dash, no starter motor trying to kick in when I turned the key, nothing, not even a sausage.
I pushed the car back to the garage and connected the charger to the battery, left it a few mins and then turned the key. The electric fan kicked in, but nothing else, no lights on the dash, no starter motor turning. So I turned her off and waited.
The fan coming on was strange as it was not on before the cut out and the car was not hot. I later checked all pipes and all were equally hot along with the rad too.
I left the battery charger on for a bit longer and then tried her again. I had to make sure in my own mind that she started and she did. No trouble. The temp guage only reached 1/4 way, so she was not overheating.
I think it could be 1 of a few things:
1. The battery is not getting enough charge and it is time to charge it.
2. The alternator is on its last legs and time to change.
3. The terminal connections of the battery need cleaning or possibly changing, then a tighten.
These do not answer why the fan came on the second time I tried to start her.
