Is Brad Closing up Wedgeparts?

Postby Rblackadar » 25 Oct 2007 17:04

I've been seeing alot of his stuff on Ebay lately with the "last one" stamp on some of his sales. I know he stopped stocking floorpans in-house, and today I saw one of his ads saying that he sold his last TR8 so the rest of the stock is being liquidated......I hope not! But that's the feeling I've been getting the past couple of months....anyone know about this?

I have seen this also and hope it is not the case...He is a great source for alot of the quirky parts these cars need from time to time.
Just an F.Y.I. did anyone see how much his TR8 went for! I looked at it after missing out on the So Cal F.I. dhc to Jolyon. It was a real good deal at 6k, but after two dead auctions were no one bid, the third auction started at 4,000 and the ebay hammer fell at 4500! TR8 guru "Terry" (from Mi I believe) got a great deal.

If you'd been listening in on the TR8 mail list you'd know he is closing up shop. He told us this some time in the summer - if I remember the timing correctly...

Honestly, Rob, I find it hard to believe that you are not on a mailing list. [;)] They have just hashed it all out. He has been talking about closing it for a while, but this sounds like the final stages. He is just selling off some of his remaining inventory and then it will be it [:(]

But this brings up a need to have a central forum which would include everyone...

Amazeing how cheap these cars go for. About the same price as a clapped out later Camaro or Mustang. Oh well, not looking to sell mine anyway. Probably has a little to do with it being difficult to sustain a bussiness selling parts for them. A lot of collector car types(not all) get concerned about putting too much money in a car they can't retrieve at sale time. I look at it as a hobby and not a retirement plan.
I never had any dealings with Wedgeparts but it's always sad to lose another source here in the states. TRF used to keep some stock for them but that has all but evaporated. Rimmer seems to have some of the best coverage but the shipping is costly and returning something is almost hopeless for the same reason. I'm not talking the hotrod & mechanical stuff but the things you would need doing a resto such as trim bits ect.

Leon, et al,

I think this forum IS central. Many FlyingWedges list members have joined. Further, I have noticed a few forum members have joined the list following its mention here.

Convergence is occurring. I was thrilled to see Odd post here. This is evidence. I am sure the forum will further benefit as Jim and other Lucas EFI experts join this community.

It is apparent that the forum provides an added dimension to the Wedge experience, not least through the image sharing facility.

But, the wwwedge email is also great... there is such a provenance of knowledge (not least Ted & Woody). I have been a member since '96 and still relish reading the content.

Owen [Hello mate!] is right; there is lots of knowledge on/in both worlds. But personally I must say I prefer the mail list format since there I get all the new postings served one by one as e-mails [I'm not on the digest format...] without having to go actively anywhere outside my own computers mail box to get it [like here for instance]... And archiving of useful info is also easier in e-mail format if one want to do it on ones own computer. Also - on the mail-list most people post their stuff under their own name and not some obscure pseudonym. Makes it all much more personal and genuine in my humble opinion...
[An added bonus (for me as a non-English speaking person) is the fact Outlook spell checks my texts - something Internet Explorer doesn’t do itt seamms... ;-) ]
I'd recommend all you TR8 and TR7V8 owners join the list [and still stay here - you can do both you know] you'll never regret it...

Owen, I will agree that this is THE best TR7/TR8 forum on the web, but at a risk of offending forum admins, that isn’t saying a whole lot… It can be a lot better! There was some talk about upgrading the forum software over a year ago, but I haven’t seeing anything on that front…

And we should make an effort to make this more of an international forum! At this time, it comes across as predominately a UK forum. Not that there anything wrong with England, but that might be keeping some of the US members from frequenting it as much as they otherwise would…

I would love to see this forum morph into the THE central forum for all TR7/TR8 needs, but it just isn’t there yet!

Odd, I am very familiar with the list vs the forum dilemma, 3+ years ago, I was an owner/ administrator for ~400 member e-mail list. All of our polls, showed that people wanted to keep it in the e-mail list format. However, I took the initiative (with the help of another web-designer/member) to create a forum alternative with certain specific rules that are absent on many web forums:

-Treat all members with respect (this isn’t a big problem with-in the wedge community )
-EVERYONE must fill out their profile: which must display their real first name/first initial of the last name in the signature field, as well as their location.
-EVERYONE must make an effort make their post as presentable as possible. To assist with this, our site offers an imbedded spell checker.

As for the searchable achieves, you can not beat search engines that are offered by the modern forum software packages!

Anyway, with-in a month, 95% of people have voluntarily moved over to the forum. We might have lost ~5 members (out of 400) who outright refused to use the forum. But as far as I am concerned, it is their loss!

And you are correct about wealth of information on the e-mail list, which is why I expressed my amazed that Rob wasn’t on that list. Until we find a central location, everyone should be a member of the e-mail list (in addition to this forum)!

Mods, I sorry for taking this discussion off the original topic, feel free to split it off into a topic of its own.

"How do you get on the list?"

Simple:
Go to http://www.team.net/TR8/maillist.html and follow the instructions.

I have tried several times to join the mailing list with no results, just dumb, I guess!

The World Wide Wedge was still active when I first found it! Tried again two days ago, with no results.

Have fun, drive fast & safe, be kewl,

Hi,

I tried to jon the list you mention some time ago but recieved and email that I had to pay for the privilage.

I find this forum so strong and supportive that I found no reason to pay money. The people here have great knowledge, great practical experience, considerate of others and willing to share. In fact I have only ever seen one ego here that wanted to protect his ideas and solutions for what ever reason and he left because we do not operate that way.

Is it worth paying and joining this other list? The only item I can see of additional worth is the ease of archiving usefull information but cut and paste works just as well for me. Pseudonyms vs your name, no problem to me

regards,

Jolyon

I've NEVER had to pay a cent/penny/xxx for the Wedge list.
You must be talking of something else. It's run off of a university computer - so it cost us nothing to operate, as far as I know...

Jolyon,

I concur with Odd. The wwwedge mailing list has always been free, as is the minds and philosophy of many of its members. It IS DEFINITELY worth joining. As Odd, described, the undigested content delivery is convenient if you want more wedge fixes each day, delivered into a folder for reading whenever you feel the need.

I think you may be thinking of the subscription site established by Richard Connew, the "World Wide TR7 TR8 Owners Club" (http://tr7-tr8.com).

I am not a member of this 'club' although I have noticed Richard has posted to both this forum and the list (not recently tho). Some forum members may recall the discussion last year regarding historic rally footage Richard had removed from YouTube. At that point I firmly decided I would never subscribe to that club.

Other's MMV...

Hey Mike, why don't you give us a perspective as another list member that has also joined here?

Owen

(PS Mike: I owe you apologies regarding my non-response to Megajolt/EDIS brackets - thinks got really out of hand over the few months - hope you understand.)
