Yah, I know what you mean. I went down to San Diego and back (over 5,000 Km) and never thought about oil pressure once.
On the other hand, a club member brought his TR7 with newly installed oil pressure gauge, half way to Picnic in the Park and his oil pressure dropped to 10 lbs. He decided to go back and by the time he got back home it had dropped to zero. I (and Ron) told him to check his pressure relief valve and sure enough the spring was in three pieces. Parts on order, no apparent engine damage but time will tell when he gets it back together.[:p]
