10 week programme to completion.

Due to my current situation (explained on the non wedge related section of the forum) I have decided to implement a 10 week programme to complete the car. The programme is as follows and I will update the thread as I cross jobs off the list

Week 1 Mechanical
I am four days into week 1 and I think I have all of the mechanical licked. It was largely done but its amazing how many jobs i had intended to finish of tomorrow and never got back to. All of the suspension is bolted up and checked and today I installed the rest of the steering between the column and the rack. I am aleady prepping the lights etc and have done a systems check to find that so far most of the electrics were ok. Its so much easier with the dashboard out. The new windscreen comes tomorrow and so far I'm feeling quite smug as I am a few days ahead of schedule.

Week 2 Electrical including lights
Fitted the rear lights yesterday with all new gaskets and had some fun with dirty contacts on the main light switch preventing the side lights from working. Also the fuses were rusty which meant there were some confused looks as things would not work as they should. An hour later all functioning correctly and not even week 2 yet. Oh my God, just realised the next job is the pop ups. Wish me luck[:0][:0]
Update!. Just finished the pop ups. Spent a whole day refurbing the motors and had a pair on new lift mechanisms. Both worked first time but it took two days to clean them up and install them with the rubber trims. Also got some new crystal wipac headlights. Supposed to be the best 7" lenses ever made. Today I connected the wiring to the fuel tank so apart from the number plate light thats the electrics sorted as every thing else electrical is done. New tinted windscreen was also fitted this week with new trim for bottom of screen. Loooking goooood!

Week 3 Fit doors boot and bonnet

Week 4 Carpets

Week 5 Hood (soft top) for our American cousins

Week 6 Fit my Leather interior trim kit

Week 7 Bumpers and exterior trim

Week 8 All of the bits I thought I would get back to but forgot.

Weeks 9 and 10 are to fine tune all of the working components, and wait for all of the last minute ordered parts and road test the car.

I am pencilling in June 21st as the day it should be MOT'd and on the road. I will update this thread every week and post pictures of the work so keep watching.

hope you can stick with it. With my restoration i also would like to make a schedule, but for now first to the painter...

A timed schedule may work for some but it may be setting you up for disappointment. I prefer to set up a time for working on my car and stick to it unless there's a good reason not to. I like to take the time neccessary to do the job right (or as right as I want to make it or can make it.) It always takes more time to do the job than estimated. Enjoy the work when you do it, don't rush it and don't work if your tired (more mistakes). Don't work on the car if you really don't want to or you will come to resent it. Of course this philosophy doesn't work if your TR7 is also your daily driver.

Hope it works out. I'm getting closer to seeing the road but now I'm fixing things that weren't broke before I started. Brake lights are stuck on, leaks here & there. At least it looks like a really nice sports car again & sounds awesume. That's keeping me focused.

Well, lights are all working again. Ya know how any socket goes in any hole in the tail lights? Well for some reason, I assumed the two that were staying on were the reverse lights. Removed the just installed console and shift boot, checked the switch with a multi meter and all seems fine. Turned out it was the brake lights. somehow the brkt for the switch got bent back!! Had to also clean up the contacts in the hazard switch that went gummy from siting. Scheduled to get the exhaust finished up Monday at the Muff Shop. Hopefully, I finally get a drive in it next week! YEAAAAA!!!

lol lol lol. Would love to see you Jeff as anyone from the forum would always be welcome in Sunny Newquay. However I can tell you it will be badged as a TR8.[:D][:D][:D]

Fitted with a V8 it can not be badged as a TR7
It cannot be badged as a TR7 V8 as we have already ascertained that some of the rally cars were badged as such, and mine is not an historic rally car. So its an equal crime to badge it TR7 V8 as it is TR8
I know its not a TR8 but I still beleive its closer to that than either of the above.
Can you see me running away from the scene of the crime having just lit the blue touch paper[:D][:D]

It's a TR7 Sam!!! Do the decent thing and stick the right badges on it! Remember some of the first Bullet prototypes had the V8 engine and were still planned to be TR7's albeit with the bigger engine option. TR8 was a marketing afterthought...

Actually, now that I mention this I should be interviewing one of the chaps in the Bullet South Wales photos soon so I'll endeavour to get his take on all this.

Just imagine how much fun you'll have if you badge it as a TR7, then scream off in to the distance, leaving that Porsche boxster at the lights wondering what on earth had happened.......lol.

badge it as a TR7 V8, I'm doing that with mine using the early type decals with matching V8 and 5.0 litre wing decals.

I do hope to be down your way at some point and I will call in on you so you can see another car with TR8 badging. How about it John Clancy and Croyde Bay, do you fancy raiding Samco's gaff just to make sure he is doing a proper job?!

I think a forum gathering at Samco's place is called for. Perhaps we could have a whip round and supply the correct 'TR7' badging!!! 'TR7 V8' would also be correct.

Interestingly, after I posted earlier I had a look through the original factory prototype build records for the earliest V8. Some of the text is hard to read but there were plenty of Bullet prototypes in 72/73. However, in 1974 there were definite V8 experimentals which suggests the TR7 V8 was planned for launch much earlier than 1978. X858 is listed as V8 General Development for pave testing so presumably this one was shaken to pieces; X859 was just V8 general development.

Having read the replies to my last post it has taken a good ten minutes to stop chuckling to myself having lit the touchpaper and waited for the results.
I agree with all of you and it will be badged as follows

TR7 v8 sd1 turbo gti glx special edition. Or I could put fiat X19 badges on, lets face it apart from the good folks on this forum who would know.
