Suspension Rebuild

Postby mahanson57 » 06 Apr 2008 23:10

My 110K 1980 wedge is riding on its original suspension. I mean to say it's riding on springs. It is very sporting to drive it through dips or over bumps. It's time for a full refresh, and I have a few questions...

1) I see VB offers both full struts and strut inserts...what should I get?

2) I want to go all-poly...specifically what list of bushings makes up the full complement?

3) I want to swap the old soft springs for new ones. Any recommendations on spring rate or vendors? VB offers "heavy duty" springs. Are these stiffer than the 95 lb. OEM springs?

4) What odds and ends parts should I also gather up?

Any vendors offering fairly complete packages?

Boy,

You have a lot of questions!

1. Just the inserts.

2 Several vendors, but if I may suggest; John's Cars in Dallas has all of the poly bushings, the strut inserts, ball joints and tie-rod ends. He gives great service. I have ordered from him one day and had the parts the next day.

3. Ted has the up-graded springs and roller bearing strut kits.

4. Might as well check the wheel bearing and the front brake pads as well. Might want to check my site.

I am not that far away if you need help.

Thanks jclay; somehow I knew you'd have the answers. I have visited your site, and it is remarkable for photos and detail. What side of town are you? I used to live in the NASA area.
