Verry nice car, white is always a good "color".
Don't like the tonneau.

That tonneau is rather odd, but could probably be cut down into a more normal configuration.

That's a standard tonneau cover, quite rare too.

They sure are rare! I've only seen two - ever. Not intended for driving around in/with, just for parking. If you want to drive
it you have to unfasten the front part. I'd love to get hold of an unmolested one - just for the oem extras collection... [8D]

I see it's been modified for the roll bar. I have to get than done to my top cover as well. The Roll bar turned out to be quite a PITA. If it weren't for it being needed to do track days, I'd have left it out.

Have just bought one of these full Tonneau covers with the screen part from Rimmers (Auto Jumble) for fifty quid all up.

Has anybody had any experiences fitting one? Any pointers please.

Cheers

When I was growing up I regularly saw this old boy driving an MGB roadster with a full tonneau cover. It had a zip from the front down the middle so he could drive and park without removing it or putting the hood up.

He did this all year round. All you could see was his head, shoulders and hands. He also smoked a pipe and in Winter had a deerstalker hat and driving gloves to add that extra touch of eccentricity.

I got two of 'em. The original is a heavy vinyl thing.Best fitted in
warm weather so it gives, but dont think about leaving car out cos if
it rains,a dirty great puddle forms, the more it sags, the bigger the
puddle.Mine is fairly water tight, but you try removing lake Geneva
without a major spillage when you wanna go home! The other is an
after market one, better in every way,but i still would'nt use it!
This second one does not fit to top of screen, but to clips/studs on
dash by screen base.It does a good impression of Coniston waters if
left out overnight!
So,to sum up - dont bother (unless you wear a cloth cap and tweed
jacket and smoke a pipe!)

See ya. Paul

The full tonneau is indeed a rare and wonderous beast. My car was dealer fitted with all the buttons when new but the tonneau went walk-about. I had a new one made in tan-infact two as the first didn`t fit my button locations (these should have been unfitted for me to locate using `the car` as a template)and in the process of sorting it all out I made this sketch of the shape and fit system. Hopefully it should make sense once you understand there is a vertical part that fits to the screen header rail.
And yes you can drive with the drivers part `open` only[img][/img]

Hi,
I got a Tonneau with my DHC when i brought it never put the thing on, now got a roll over bar so probaly never will! without attacking it with some sissors [;)]
Looks good in white, a very popular colour at the moment, we just sold 3 new M3's all in white to 3 guys from the same company. They look great in white and show of the carbon fibre roofs really well.
Great trim job in that boot [:)] anyone know of a kit available to do similar [?]
Cheers John

If it's a genuine Unipart tonneau cover you have purchased, I have the original fitting instructions which I can send to you by e-mail, if you want. Contact me at jeff.poole@martin-hall.com..

I thought you Brits always drove your sportscars this way.[:D]

Although TR7 looks good in most any colour white should be reserved for those cars with lots of polished brass and headers coming out the side of bonnet or like the one below.

Thanks very much chaps,

I was just trawling around bored when I spotted this on Rimmers autojumble site, thought it looked cheap (didn't really think about the fitting) so I bought that and the two air boxes they had. It all arrived today with a bonus item - an air intake chamber for a TR6 Pi - now what would I want with that? and Rimmers dont want it back! ah well i'm sure it will find a good home.
John, I have the same problem fitting the Toneau cover as you, ie roll bar fitted I may have to take a trip to see the local trimmer to sort that bit out.
Paul, I remember a mate years ago on one of our wetter Le Mans trips having a prop system that stood on the transmission tunnel - but yes you are correct its not for leaving overnight with the hood down.I wonder if I will get to use it on either of my two trips this year.
Jeff, Thanks very much I have sent you an email. cheers.

Howard, again cheers I have printed your sheet off - I hope we get a warm weekend soon so I can get this right.

Thanks again
Ian

If you can't get through on the e-mail address, make sure there is no final full stop after 'com'.
