Strange how BL / BMC named different cars around the world this was our version of the Marina-

The 1.8 TC was quite a car in its day [;)] ,basically a MGB engined version went well till it got to a slight bend [xx(].
Anyone remenber the Allegro Equipe[?]

Thats the beast [}:)] The coachlines carried on through onto the seats!! Maxi 1750 engine would give a Vauxhall Magnum a run for its money [:)]. No wonder BL got into trouble,producing cars that competed against one another!

Is this Deja vu ? Dont think much of the motor,but the door handles

Ahh now the old mini & Bl Adverts were great too, was it the allegro 3 that had the round lights at the front, much smarter than the square type, i know i guy who has an allegro and wouldnt part with it

Even in Canada an Austin 1800 is an Austin 1800.
And a Marina is something completely different!
The seller is mistooken!

BTW: We got both the 4-door Marina and the coupe. The coupe was never very common. All were 1800's and if I recall all were single carb although the coupes may have been twin carb. They are pretty much all gone now, it's very rare to come across one. A coupe would be fun as a daily driver.

The car in the Ad would be known to the UK as an Austin 1800 - pretty sure the lad is wrong calling it a 'Marina' - which in UK were always Morris anyway. The 1800 was a FAR superior car to the ghastly Marina. BMC used the 1800s as Rally Barges for Servicing - and they did some Rallying and Rallycross with them too. The Marina was completely useless and used for absolutely nothing!
The TR7 in the background looks pretty far gone.

Many years ago, as a family car dad always had a BL car and the one i remember was the
Austin Princess, tell you what we had some great hols in that car and it were comfy too!

Yes indeed, the ad car is what was known as an Austin 1800 in the UK. Confusingly I think there was also a Morris 1800 version in the UK, although time may be playing tricks on my memory there!

The Morris Marina was a different car in the UK, see John215 link above. The UK Marina 1800 had a single carb version, & a twin carb version (using the MGB engine) which was known as the Marina TC in the UK.

Common cars in the 70s, don't see many around know! Strangely though I did see one in the town where I live just a few days ago (yes it was on the road, not at the scrapyard[:)])

A chap around here a V8 Marina Van back in the 80s.
It was great in a straight line and didn't stop very well.
Fitting the Eight was really easy. The Marina doesn't have a front crossmember. The engine bay really is empty when you take out the Engine.

Here in Oz, we had a 6 cylinder Marina. Leyland Australia built a 2.6 litre E series motor & fitted that, along with 1750 & 1500 E series (Maxi & Allegro) engines. Unfortunately, we never got the B series engined version. Great acceleration, but quickly ran out of steam. Could have used a higher diff ratio.

A pessimist is never disappointed!
