My '76 car has been converted to a 5 speed. I retained the original 4 speed flywheel and clutch. I am now convering that car to a 16 valve. Since the entire lump is out I thought I would replace the clutch disk. I acquired one on ebay but it's for a 5 speed. The difference is the spined boss is about 1/4 inch thicker on the 5 speed. With that it looks like here will be less freeplay at the top of the pedal.
So are the disks interchagable in my hybrid drivetrain, that is, 4speed flywheel with a 5 speed gearbox?

Hi Nick, the flywheel is pretty much the same between the two. When you originally converted to 5 speed you should have changed the clutch then. You will need to use both the plate and cover from the 5 speed now.

Thanks Steve for clearing this up. The information on this topic is all over the place. Some suppliers are showing seperate part numbers for 4 and 5 speed pressure plates and some show one number for all applications. In my case my 4 speed clutch worked OK with my 5 speed gearbox, but I was never happy with how high I had to raise the pedal for the clutch to engage even though it seemed to engage fully. The engagement range was higher than on my other 5 speed car.
