Don't think this is doing anything

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 21 May 2015 00:28

The other day, whilst replacing my relays, I notices an earth cable, that I do not think is doing anything. As it can be seen from the picture below; it comes from the bolt on the coil holder to the suspension strut bolt. I may be wrong, but I do not think this is serving any purpose and therefore I was thinking of taking it out. Would you agree?

I agree, it doesn't appear to be doing anything.

That was my thought too, that it is not doing anything. If it was coming from a coil connection then possibly, but as it is going from one earth point to another, then the wire is useless.

Mine has the same wire, it's factory fitted. No idea what it's for.

The one on mine was attached under the pressure limiter bolt rather than the strut top - same difference though, it didn't seem to do anything so I left it off.

I think it's a backup ground to drain any electrical charge build up on the coil. It is also on my Delco coil/amplifier. Will your car stop working if you remove it. No. But you shouldn't.

Should it stay or should it go lol.
I like the quote about take it off and see what stops working. Not much works sometimes, so may be hard to find :D

It's connected to the chassis (ground) at both ends, so it's doing nothing.
Probably something to do with the proposed fitting of a Flux Capacitor or Energy Polarizer.

Hi,

I remember Austin Aggroes ( Allegro ) I think only the E series ( 1500 and 1750 ) had a similar wire doing the same thing ie. nothing ! No doubt kept someone in a job somewhere !
