Heater Control Linkage Washers / Spacers

Postby TheBozz » 23 Jan 2014 15:57

Hi all,

Having finally lost the plot with not having a heater in my daily driver DHC TR7 I decided to remove it and see what the problem was.

Every morning the windscreen just wouldn't clear and there was more moisture on the inside than out. I just dreaded having to go out in her and in this cold and damp weather, driving with your head stuck out the window is just not recommended.

So armed with my Haynes manual, Parts catalogue and repair Operation manual I started. After just over an hour I had the dashboard out, I just couldn't believe it as I have been having nightmares about removing it. And if I had gone with my instinct and just unplugged the electrical connectors under the top facia centre grille instead of removing most of the switches then it would have been quicker.

Anyway with everything removed I spotted the problem and that the right hand side linkages had just come apart. I found most of the parts in and around the vacinity but was missing some washers / spacers.

So I want to know if anyone has sourced the following washer(S) / Spacer(S)

The large one is:
24mm Outer Diameter x 6.3mm Inner Diameter x 1.3mm Thick
Black Rubber or Fibre? and this sits at the base of the control arms 4 in total.

The smaller one is a white Nylon washer:
10mm Outer Diameter x 6.3mm Inner Diameter x 1mm Thick and this sits on each of the 4 x Control arms VENT, Hot & Cold, Air & min & max levers that go up and down.

I have spoken to quite a few companies but only one has something very similar but I'm looking at a min charge of £30 + £7.95 postage for 100 of each. If I have to bite the bullet I will as I need to put everything back in the TR before I forget the order in which I removed it lol but it does seem a little OTT?

If anyone else has come across these small but important parts or can point me in a cheaper direction it would be most appreciated.

Mark

P.S also would like to know where I can get some sticky backed foam / rubber to recover the vent flaps with.

Hi Mark
Contact Simon at Robsport or Rick at S+S I am pretty sure they will be able to help you with the parts you need.
Cheers

I used foam from Michael Craft Store
if you are talking about the thin stuff.

Mark

try Worldofwashers.com they have black rubber and white nylon washers pretty close to the size you're looking for - also Falcon Workshop Supplies have a vast array of just about everything in the way of nuts bolts and washers.

I have some thin (3mm) adhesive backed foam sheet with a peel off film which I got (from B&Q I think) when I was doing a floating solid oak floor for a customer which sounds like what you are looking for. It came in a 25mtr x 1mtr roll and I still have a offcut off the roll left over - if you can't source any locally then I don't mind cutting a piece off and posting it on to you if you wish
