Door mirrors

Postby HDRider » 24 Nov 2009 16:06

I would like to replace my door mirrows and am wondering if anyone has pictures of TR7/8's with mirrors other than the stock Tex ones.

I am thinking about bullet mirrors so I would like to see a car them mounted.

Sorry I am going off at a tangent here but I have been considering fitting one of these to my drivers door.It is a70's/80's standard Ford europe door mirror. It has the benifit of being adjustable from the inside of the car too however I will need to make a small hole in my door card for the control stick. The only other drawback is a left side matching one is not available unless you go to a left hand drive country autojumble[:D].I am told the FX4 taxi also used these mirrors in electric format[:p] with matching left and right.I 'borrowed' these pics from e-bay.These mirrors also come in matt black and are more plentyfull and cheaper in black[;)]

Just bear in mind that the drivers side mirror needs to be convex for bullet mirrors to work which distorts things but does eliminate the normal blind spot.

I always thought Ron's (Orange Rag) mirrors looked particularly good. I think they are Camaro or some such. I'm always impressed with his ability to visit a auto wreckers and find stuff that looks like it's designed for the TR7. If you read this Ron let us know what they are if I'm off.

Yes I do enjoy auto parts yards, but my mirrors are an after market product from the 70's made by Amco. We found a new set still in the box for $5.00 at the Portland Field Meet two years ago and put them on Cale's 77 FHC.

I have to say, I think the standard mirrors look just fine myself. I can't quite see the sense in putting round/curved mirrors on a car that's all straight lines anyway. But, variety is the spice of life. [:)]

My biggest issue with stock mirrors is that they get shifted around every time I take the cover off. A bit of a pain to adjust all the time.

Hello guys and girls,
The mirrors I’ve got on my TR come of the early GTE models from Opel/Vauxhall.(80-ies)
I haven’t any pictures because the car went to the body shop last Monday and everything is taken off. They resemble like the ones Beans have except for that they will be partially re sprayed in the new body color and that they are mounted on the side and not on top of the door (but the mirror housing sits just beneath the window). They look really very nice, it’s like they’ve been made for this car.
Greetings, J.

I put the original style mirrors on my car from TEX. They have the convex glass in both. They also have locking screws under the mirror frame to keep them from moving once adjusted. I had Italian mirrors on the car, come with it, as well as on the Fiat. Hated them!!

Crappy Italian Mirrors: (Cheap free for nothing, if anyone wants them! No, you can't talk me down on the price!!)

Much better TEX mirrors:

Sounds like the standard mirrors then (although the standard ones are actually metal). [:p]

Maybe mine are/were a bit worn out and not fixed properly, but I always found changing lanes on the motorway was an exercise in guesswork and blind faith. You could sort of see that there was a car somewhere, but exactly how close it was was always a matter of 'best guess'.

I still reckon they look the best though. [:)]

Are you sure those aren't crappy US mirrors [:p]
My bordeaux DHC had them "expertly" fitted when it came over to the NL from California ...

They really look(ed) terrible, and were terrible to look in [:0]
