Which TR7 club?

I am now about to join a TR 7 club, and have probably narrowed it down to 2: TR Drivers Club and TR Register. However, as money is an issue (unlike the queen I only get one lot of birthday money a year [:(][:D]) I can't afford to join both simultaneously.

I don't think it's fair of me to ask which one is the best as that sort of advice is very subjective, and what suits one person doesn't always suit another. I need to make my own mind up, but I think I need to do a bit of research myself first. Can anybody explain the benefits that each club has over the other, though?

I'm particularly interested in technical knowledge initially, but will be keen to ascertain the history of my car at a later date. Does anybody have any web links I can visit to help me make my mind up?

I would consider flip-flopping between each club on an annual basis - one year with either club then swapping back for a year and so on to maximise benefits.

Or, you could just consider this forum as your TR7 club and save your shekels. Granted we don't actually 'see' each other, that may well be a good thing considering the local hygiene customs in each country. The bonus here is our meetings are held any time we want rather than some hard to schedule set dates. Do you need reminding our clubhouse is always far more convienient to find and we do allow all kinds of refreshments on site. Don't forget about our free parking.

TriumphTR7.com does have it's advantages, you know.

I just joined these guys. It's a rvised version of the old TR8 club to include & welcome all Wedge cars.

Not sure what benifits I will see but wanted to be counted among the wedge owners world wide. Hopefully this will encourage some of the larger parts outfits Moss ect. to expand into parts for our cars.

They do list this site as the forum of choice so they can't be bad. [:D]

I suppose you are looking more for a club in the UK where events are held ect. Just thought I'd throw this in. Have fun whatever you decide.[:)]

Mac,

If its money side the TR Drivers club membership is Â£25 with no joining fee and the TR Register its Â£41 + Â£2 joining or re joining fee applies.

The TR Drivers is a bi monthly mag or every 1.5 months the TR Register come out.

I could send you a TR Drivers enquirey pack if you want just email me with your details.

I can also see the option of not joining any club or just dropping in and out of clubs but if this was the general rule alot of clubs would fail by the way side without the core support, which any club is all about and like minded people write about there cars.

Maybe come and see both clubs at the NEC on the 13, 14 & 15 Nov.

Are you looking for a monthly magazine or involvement with a local group?

Acceptance of 7's can vary widely from one group to another.

Its been said before, if youre interested in all Triumphs, go for Club Triumph or TSSC, if youre interesred in all TRs, go for the Register, if youre only interested in TR7/8s the only club is the TR Drivers club. Ive been in them all an its difficult to understand the idea of not being in any, not even good economics.
Not posting much at the moment as im in sunny Toronto.

Guys, that's some great advice; it's given me plenty to think about, cheers. I fully accept Chris's advice about each club needing members, ergo funds, so will therefore consider joinig one club initially and then join another club as soon as I can. I'd not factored the insurance savings in so that'll probably pay for one membership alone - good call (enjoy your holiday).

I'm definitely only interested in TR7/8s; am I the only guy that thinks TR6s are actually quite ugly - more of a box with rounded off corners than a sleek motor car (burn me at the stake for such heresy!). For that reason, I'd probably eliminate the TSSC and TR Register as an option at this stage, although I'd happily provide them with the registration info and maybe even seek a Heritage Certificate (assuming these aren't dependent on registration!).

I don't have a great deal of free time during the week but would like to go to meetings, if only to look at other 7s to glean technical advice. Magazines would be great but it's probably more the opportunity to make friends with people and then phone them for advice when the limit of my knowledge is reached (quite early on, unfortunately!).

All this is helping me lean towards the TR Drivers Club at the moment but as mentioned in my original thread I'll check all clubs out on-line. I'll be located in the Wilts/Oxford area for the next year - does anybody know which clubs are more active around that neck of the woods? (Shrivenham/Watchfield area, nearer Swindon than Oxford).

Thanks again for all your help above, it's given me plenty to mull over. I will still need and want the technical advice offered on this brilliant site and look forward to the day I can give more advice than I need - one day, Rodney!

I will be sending out a pack next week for you, about the closest to you I will be going this year will be Castle Coombe on the 19th Sept for the Rallyday. Should be around 10 TR7/8 on the stand and a few hopefully on track.

Just thought it worth mentioning on the off chance you can make it.
