Seems all the early wedges got the finger from their marques. The 124 boys didn't like the X-19, the Elan chappies hated the Esprit/Eclat/Elite, and the TR6 blokes despised the TR7/8.
I think they were wrong but then I'm biased!

Cheers,
Rich

Personally, I like all of the above...but don't really care too much for the 1st gen MR-2, it looks a bit too "Bandai-ish"

Change is sometimes hard! I didn't care much for the TR6 when it was new; a friend told me that I would have to have one some day. I liked the Wedge immediately, except for the lack of a convertible. I bought a TR6 almost 20 years ago, to join the '58 MGA that I've had since 1970. Last year I added a TR8 roadster to my stable. Now I'm starting to take a liking to the coupe, but my wife won't give me any more space in the garage....

It's the swage. As wedgetarians we accept it but do we really think it looks that good? "quoted from PeterTR7V8"

i actually like the swage line and agree with John C. it would look very odd without it and a mercedes seem to be using it a lot these days............

I very much doubt it. I know Autoexpress made the mock-up a year or so ago:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoe ... iumph.html

in which there was absolutely no truth, but I cant see how it would ever be a commercially viable move for BMW - a company who after all couldnt even make Land Rover a success....

I have to agree guys with John Clancy, i also thought the original d swage line design looked the best, i seem to recall didnt Truimph put together a TR without the Swage line and with knock out roof panals, it was around the same time that they were working on the O series engine, i might be wrong on that one though guys

Coincidently, I was watching the Best Of Top Gear (ie, a rerun of the entire catalog) last night & they were featuring the Z4. I remember thinking that it was the swage reborn. And it is still as controversial now as it was in '75.

You're thinking of this?

Back in the day I liked the TR7 and the X1/9. Almost bought a Esprit. The swage line I was ambivalent about as well as roof line but now it has grown on me making the TR7 different from everything else. The TR7 with it's higher dipolar moment was better on the highway while the Fiat could change direction quickly it was too skittery on the freeway and it's engine too small.

You're probably right though. Cup of tea anyone?

Hi Wayne
BMW were not really interested in making Land Rover a success they were more interested in getting the first hand knowledge of a first class four wheel drive system, something the Germans never really succeded in doing before.
